I had read awhile back, that the 2.5 bolt pattern was the same as the sbc. I had read that online, so wasn’t sure how to take it until now.... very informative!

Isn't the '80's/'90's 2.5 simular/same as the Vega/Monza 4 bangers? I know those also had the Chevy bellhousing patteren.

those bellhousings might bolt onto a SBC but it doesn't look like SBC starter nose would fit in the bellhousing

There were 2 different 2.5's used. The one with the Chevrolet bell housing was the old iron Duke which was last used in the CJ7s. The YJ and small Cherokees used the AMC 2.5 which is a totally different engine. It also has a different bell housing pattern.
