Went to the Junkyard today...

If you've ever wondered "What happens to all of those Diesel VW's with phony emissions numbers?" here is the answer:

They get flattened to about 12" high. The guy at the junkyard said they can only take off the wheels and tires and remove "personal belongings". If they even take out the floor mats, its a $20K fine. I was wondering why there were hundreds of sets of VW wheels and tires for sale for cheap at the junkyard... Like $145 for nice set of 4 with 20K tread left on them, cheap.

Too bad they have the goofy 5X112 bolt pattern.

Dipshyts go into the LKQ yards around here thinking its funny and tip cars off the stands. If they keep it up it will ruin the pick your part experience for everyone. Not cool.....

At the one yard I go to, if somebody did that they would be under 3 or 4 cars as they stack them that high.

Boy would I like to have those bars on my Ranger.

I know, so I checked to see how they were attached. Aerospace quality welds everywhere including the frame. Those bars aren't going home with anyone without days of sawing.

That is a lot of overkill attaching those bars, likely better than the chassis welds.

Gotta love the EPA rushing to push standards with out making sure manufactures could meet them. In my opinon I think the emmision standards should keep in pass with the current techologies for emmisions. Just think how many other cars could have the same fate, we know others are doing & haven't got busted yet. But like the cash for clunkers, more parts cars being crushed with out being parted out.

Yeah that was a "for the children" time bomb pushed in 1997 that was set to explode 10 years later. Somebody, just ONE honest person in Washington should have said "ummm... you know our emission stds on these things are tighter than those in Europe, where 50% of the cars on the road are Diesel (not 3% like here), and Last time I checked, kids weren't dying in droves from Diesel emissions" or "You know, if someone buys a Duramax instead of a VW passat and drives that, their emissions are allowed to be 20X more than we allow for the Passat. We aren't stopping them from doing that and we are actually encouraging it".

The stupidity, it burns.
