What, another LS swap cost thread?

As much as I am disinterested in Ls stuff, it’s almost embarrassing that anyone would mention a Modular engine of any size or style in the same sentence as an Ls, or Hemi for that matter.

Nobody seriously wants a CV for anything other than a good work car that you don’t mind hitting a deer with from time to time.

Yes, start with the personal attacks since you know you're losing.

Go mow your yard, Boomer.

Might want to be careful with Boomer comments, think a pretty good amount of members here are in that group. 😆

But, keep it going guys, this is entertaining

I have entertained myself many times with comments like this that I've made. The most entertaining part is when I relealize I'm in the group that I'm slammin' hehe. Kinda like a 'look in the mirror dummy'

I have to admit that Buster's comments about not worrying running to 30K miles when my car has a 4 foot piece of 4 inch diameter exhaust pipe IS SPOT ON. Think about it, making 700+hp on a sub $500 longblock, but someone else is worried about my cheap turbo lasting 30K miles - HAHA 🙂

TIEclone is correct about the LS oil system is the weak link in the LS platform. It's easily found and verified. But find another stock bottom end (SBE) that can reliably hold 700+ and has been to 1500 in repeated situations. Do that with a mod motor....bzzzzt.

About all I’ve got from this thread is your average DBC 4.8/5.3 swap is going to be around $2000-$4000 depending on upgrades and transmissions.
A 6.0 is anywhere from $500 to $1500 more depending on where you buy one.

And lightweight Hondas that are built right with a trainload of boost are fast. Whowouldaguessed.

Mac, did you think you were opening a portal to the 7th ring of hell when you started this thread?

30k miles would be at least 120 passes down the drag strip. Maybe 240 if you run 1/8...

Thats not terrible to get out of a full blown boosted race engine before pulling for a refresh.

I would consider an LS swap but....
#1: Tossing in a $500 wrecking yard 5.3 & getting it running in x-amount of days to get the "warranty' seems plausible if you already had an LS in there & all the bugs worked out. An LS swap project? Unlikely, unless you do the work for a living.
#2: The 'cheap' versions of doing the swap leave you w/an engine compartment that resembles a 01-10 Tahoe/work truck. Functional, yes but not exactly appealing.
#3: The cool parts that make it an 'easier' swap stack up the costs quickly. Especially when you're not fully aware of the ins/outs/caveats of an LS swap. A dozen of you will list what worked for you but it will be different vs. what worked for someone else. More than once I've seen where something worked for one g-body app but didn't for another & they used something slightly different. My conclusion is the parts vary because the cars & final set-ups will vary. You don't know until you're in there....
#4: The HP numbers war. Sure LS motors make power. But you 'gotta spin them. I (we) had an '02 CE-T/A (w/the LS6 cam/intake). I loved it once the trans died & the rebuilt unit got upgrades & a 2600 stall. Nice back & forth car but I sure don't recall it ever planting my butt in the seat like a 400sbc or big-block could back in my younger days. Granted, I haven't been in an LS7 app or in a built 6.0 so that's my personal limited exposure.

With that T/A, over the course of 10yrs of opportunities to drive it, I prob hit the upper side of the rpm range a handful of times. The rest was 2k rpm around town. It didn't seem any more powerful than my 74 Chevy truck w/it's 100k mile 350 unless I had it buzzing the rev limiter.

Maybe one day, something other than a sbc/bbc will happen for me in the G.

Not sure on your math here, I think you can get way more than 120 passes out of 30k.

1/4 down, 1/4 back and 1/4 in the pits is .75 per run, or 40,000 passes.

I figured lots of driving in between as a daily, with track runs on the weekend
