What did you do at work today?

starting a mobile division called Torque. I applied and my manager blocked me from getting the position. Claimed we are short staffed. Too many people have left for the same reasons. I'm just not up for the drama, our manager is actually in the hot chair because so many techs have left our shop.
anytime a manager blocks you from getting a position for ANY reason, it's time to move on. my last two managers have been great. at my previous job she asked my hiring manager if he could postpone my start date by 2 weeks. he didn't have a problem with that, neither did I, and so we did. however, the manager I had 10 yrs ago.....she can rot in hell. she had the highest turnover of ANY manager in I.T. I've seen.

All this makes me glad that I am on a call in list which comes with the option to "Just say no" The department to which I am attached is so small both literally and in staff, that it makes things quite comfortable. Just show up, do the circle check, piss and moan about the other driver being a slob; literally! If I want a clean truck, I get to be the one who takes it to the wash point. FPITA.

As it is, I am booked in for Fridays for the whole month. The two full timers can't get OT because Archives has put a moratorium on incoming materials from the various departments. Stuff sat for over two years due to Covid, because they went into total isolation and refused all contact with the outside world. Now that the departments are coming back on line, they have a backlog of documents that have to be transferred to storage and the warehouse won't take them. So the driver's are taking lieu time instead of the OT, which they pile up at the rate of a week of time off per month, based on two hours per week; and totally distinct from regular holidays. Total scam but union sanctioned so just use a big enough rug to stash it all under.

So I drive, and they pay me, and I pay my bills.

Delivered my last load this AM and turned the truck in. Fck this OTR sh*t. Pay isn't great when you consider the hours worked and the lifestyle is miserable. Fighting to park, fighting your clock, running 14 hours on 6 hours of lousy sleep, showering two or three times a week, eating overpriced truckstop garbage.

You're entirely at the mercy of a dispatcher who works in an air conditioned office 5 miles from his house from 9-5 Monday to Friday. The closest he's ever come to driving a truck is that one time he rented a u-haul to pickup a foosball table he bought on Craigslist. They are so displaced from reality it's a joke.

It was a good learning experience, glad I did it. Got to see some cool things and haul some interesting stuff. No way I could do it for any length of time though. I'll find some local stuff to haul and get paid by the hour.
So....

What exactly is your new job these days?

No offense intended. Just a little hobby jab about getting into the fencing game. I'll apologize if it didn't land properly

I think you missed my sarcasm... I thought you were cool as in I thought you weren't gonna keep my heist on the DL... 🤣

Yea. Some sarcasm, or other more obvious things, have been missed in the last 24 hours. The leg/foot injuries gave out in a bad way and let me to redecorate a sheet rock wall with a forehead sized dent/hole.

Been awake since Saturday morning and on extra meds 😵

went to my weekend job at 8:30a, installed 4 batteries between 9:30a and 11:30a, sweating my *ss off in the 95F heat, finally came home at 3:30p
