What did you do at work today?

Leave it to me to finally have a job I enjoy, and I quit after a year. Actually an old sales guy called me and one of their distributors needs a tech rep. I’m really not ready to get out of the booth but, I will have to do it at some point. I figured now is as good a time as any. I still have my second and third painting jobs if I need that fix. Hopefully I’ll take to it better than I did being the shop foreman. I checked in parts for a few weeks and was ready to kill myself.
it's a change but you gotta take it while it's there, not getting any younger either, your body will thank you.

That’s what I’m thinking. Don’t want to be that old body guy that’s aching all over and miserable. I’m halfway there now. Hahaha

The best tech reps are the guys who actually used the product.
When I worked for a PBE jobber, we had a great rep for PPG. Worked with the techs, could solve problems, wasn't afraid to get in the booth with the guy having an issue and work it out.
The Sikkens rep was "trained" at the Sikkens school, and only knew what he'd seen there.
You'll do fine, and yes, your body will thank you.

It's true, got to talking to my rep a couple months ago,we were talking about the lack of people going into trade,He says the average age of a tech on the floor is 56..most of the older guys like you say are pretty bent they're still out there and the attitude runs through the shop like a virus..

Doesn’t help when it’s the absolute lowest paid of all the trades out there, and using the products can actually kill you.

I got outta the trade for more moral reasons, didn’t like or agree with how the insurance companies and body shops conspired with each other to pick and choose the work/gravy/high profit jobs. Or worse yet, outright write something off because they couldn’t be bothered with it. But I digress.

Regardless, that was pushing 20 years ago now and I don’t regret the decision. I’m far happier, healthier and more prosperous now than if I had’ve stuck with it.
