What did you do at work today?

Meant to post this a week ago but got sidetracked. After 6-1/2 years driving this paper shredding truck I'm in the process of switching gears! A local gbody friend drives a semi for Sysco foods and does very well doing it.
I enjoy my gig, but well underpaid compared to other companies in same line of work. I'm on a do not compete clause which is fine. Was joking around about going to Sysco when my friend said they need help bad!!! One thing has led to another and I have an interview tomorrow morning which could legit be life changing for my family. I'm at the age where I need to make a change now and get into a solid company I can retire from.
My boss said she would likely retire in the next 10ish years, that leaves me with squat. Gotta think about my family. Fingers crossed it all works out in the morning, I'll update once complete.
good luck brother,good for you.

Wish I hadda ditched the go nowhere job I had when I was much younger and found something more stable and interesting. Had ten years in and paying into a company pension and corporate head office pulled the pin on my branch for "generating insufficient net profits". It wasn't the market share, it was the staggering amount of genuine junk that they kept trying to force the local vendors to buy. Don't think they ever did a legitimate market analysis of the region; just used a blanket sales philosophy of "it sells elsewhere, it'll sell there." The whole division crashed and died about a decade or so later and i don't think they ever did figure out what they had done wrong, or knew and flat refused to accept reality. Lot of that going around nowadays.

We rotate on-call and it is my turn this week.
Today we were out to get the wife some new shoes for work(our puppy ate her other shoes we bought last week).
Well as we were paying I get a call…followed by two others. Got three calls stacked on each other. So we took a family field trip over to the shop. At least the kids got to run around and waste a ton of energy for the next few hours.
Also got to take a pic of the new floors before we destroyed it 🤣
They have been doing a slow (s#!+) job the last week. $70k wasted paid for that work. 🙄

Update: Nailed the interview this morning, was way more informal than I expected from such a large company as Sysco. Got the job. Short term position is driver helper but I'll be working on my CDL asap. As of now start date is Sept 7th which is two days before my birthday, I'll happily take that as a gift!
I notified my current boss, she is supportive of the decision, but I could hear the panic in her voice. Not tooting my horn, but I basically keep the day to day onsite shred operations going! She might be on the road one or two days each week, but she did build it from nothing 19 years ago. It'll be bittersweet, I have alot of really good customers that I'll miss, but faith and forward thinking I'm trying to prepare for retirement 30 years away.
Cheers y'all, thanks for the support as always!

Nope, 1lb shy of class B requirements lol. The shred truck is 26,000 GVW. I worked in truck rental for almost a decade out of high school, I can pretty much drive anything just not legally on the road.
I rented a 24' box truck from Olympic Idealease back in 2001 to take my Class B road test at the DMV. It had a liftgate on it, which I was accustomed to from driving my Dad's trucks. Still, I just clipped the curb side rear tattle tale (pole on a spring) with the rear most corner of the liftgate when parallel parking it. Good times. I still passed. I can't remember, do you have to parallel park a combination vehicle?

Just remember, chopping up and hauling peoples secrets is waay different than humping frozen chicken patties up and down a ramp all day.....😆
Good luck to ya, change is good.
