What did you do to/with your chainsaw today

Burned my 036 down. Luckily I know a guy with supreme Stihl knowledge. Parts on order.

All of my 034 parts have been through the ultrasonic cleaner or the dishwasher if the didn't fit in the ultrasonic. Carb kit arrived yesterday, put installed it and put the tank assembly together. Muffler is soaking in Evaporust. Just waiting on the piston rings to arrive to get it all back together.

And assembled the bottom end of my ugly Stihl 660 build. New OEM bearings, OEM case gasket. I use a bit of Permatex Motoseal on the case halves for extra insurance.

The rich get richer....

Any bits in there that appear to be ugly saw build candidates?

I haven't gone through everything yet but there is most of an MS660 in there. I already took one set of case halves to use for my ugly 660 saw build because they are nicer than the ones I had. Still have another set in there and a PTO side for an 064.

Looking to put one together?

It's on my list of things I can learn to do.

I almost came home with an 'old man' 360 that a guy who was nearby him bought neglected and supposedly freshened up a bit and had working again. But, combining someone else having been deep inside it, him wanting close (maybe 3/4) of its true worth, and, the fact it'd be stinking up the trunk of the car and everything in it on a 1200 mile ride back..... eh, judgment won out.

There were lots of thinks I found on that trip I wish I could drug home, including an 89 w250 Cummins that ran/drove, good frame, 120k but failed MA inspection due to sheetmetal rust. Only asking $3k but I need another orphan project out of state like a hole in my head

Smart move passing on the 360. Good saws but I pass on stuff that other people have worked on unless I know who was working on it. Too many ways for other people to mess things up and make them worse than if they had just left it alone.

Assembling them is a lot of fun. It's like working on a big puzzle except when it's done it doesn't have to sit in a corner and collect dust; it's a tool you can put to use. You may want to look into one of the Farmertec 660 kits. Some company in China reverse engineered a Stihl 660 and sells all the parts as a complete kit. They also sell them fully assembled under the name "Holzfforma". I have put them together and they run well. Very low cost of admission too. I intend on building one eventually. I've heard the current kits are better than the earliest ones. Lots of great videos on how to put them together too. They have made kits of other saws since but the 660 was the original one. They go on sale every once in a while for $259.99 or something like that. I'm sure with Black Friday coming up there will be a sale.
