Mr. Sony does the needle bounce? A dry or gummy spot will cause that. You can remove the cable, flush with housing with solvent, then lube the cable and re-assemble. That worked for me. But a squeal may be the gauge itself.

I finally got to take the Cutlass for a ride last Sat and the speedo did the same thing. It never fooking ends with this car.

Luckily... I have a 2 piece speedo cable so i vise gripped the round end and a 1 inch open end on the other and it came loose very easily.

Some lube and a power drill (in reverse) and fixed............hopefulllllllly

Oddly, it bounces significantly less now. This weekend it will be dealt with.

Ah... Here we go. The correct thread.
Ahem.
F*cking thermostat housing is leaking again. Was fine last night. Fine this morning. Just started leaking again. Mother******.
I dont mind redoing it, but the fact that I have to redo it after I JUST did it less than 12 hours ago is what annoys me. At least the hose will come off easilly.
And yes, i filed it. The housing is not cracked. I used a felpro gasket and a thin coat of rtv. I use just enough to not be able to see the blue color of the gasket, if that wording makes sense. It didnt leak afterwards. Only starting leaking today. I hope I was just dumb and didnt tighten a clamp enough. I have to limp it home and start it up and watch it to see where its leaking. Theres a bypass hose as well on the stat (similar to olds) so theres a lot going on.

I'm chasing the thread! I'll answer here too. "Mr.Sony sometimes the aluminum housings suck and don't want to seal. I have a cast iron housing on my 301 and it never leaks anymore. Also try surfacing it on a sheet of sandpaper on a pane of glass. Then schmear a bit of UltraBlack on the gaskets when you button it up. "

Worked on winterizing the wagon. Swapped to winter wheels with brand new snow tires. Added my 150lb. chunk of steel on top of the spare tire in the well. Removed headlight trims. Added my own recipe for cosmoline on the bumpers and tailpipe extensions. Waxed inside the door jambs and topped off the fluids.

I also spray the underside with oil to slow down the rust monster. But it makes such a mess in the shop that I didn't do it yet. Since I also need to do "Vango" (wife's daily),I'll wait until next weekend's long weekend and do both at once.

Thats what I did. If it is the gasket that is leaking and not a hose I think I have a metal one around or can source one.
