What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Took out the fuel line. Wasn’t easy, but finally was able to get it out without having to take off any of the belts. Had to remove the coolant hose and alternator brace, though.

Chris,
You've certainly been busy. I guess the bearings are pressed onto the axle shafts. It's a shame you have to pull the trans again after installing the new one. Did you have a problem with the starter and flexplate?
yes i have been, the axle's are leaking and the seals are a part of the bearing/retainer assembly.i somehow bent the wilwood e-brake backing plate so that needed to come off.while I'm there I'm replacing the limited slip as it isn't working all the time even with the friction modifier added.it is a bummer the new trans has to come out but i talked to the gentleman that built it and he's honoring the warranty and sending me a bill of lading to ship it back.that certainly takes the sting out a little bit.i pulled the starter and flex plate in order to pull the motor.for a motor that's got just over 3000 miles on it, the oil pressure's on the lower side.. @ operating temperature even with 20w-50 there's gotta be a clearance inside that's to big making the pressure this low.it's ok @ cruise but @idle it falls far to low for my liking. between the trans/headers out of the car,the season winding down soon, the rear main leaking, this is the ideal time to get this worked out.i think if i didn't do it now i would've run into something down the road. it sucks but if the trans went in the spring time I'd be super pissed.i can't complain, this was my first full summer driving it & i enjoyed the hell outta this car.it's been a long project and i did put almost 3000 miles on it in a few months and i'm happy with that.

It's a shame you have to take everything apart again. I'm glad you at least had a full, fun driving season.
Is there trouble with the trans, too?
As far as the lower than normal oil pressure, it does sound like loose bearing tolerances. Was the crank cut the last time you built the engine?
It does sound like you're going to be busy over the winter.

Decimated the Monte's engine cradle with a 1.5" hole saw to get the old motor mounts off. Then I degreased the firewall, frame and suspension - which was then doused in rust inhibitor.

Later paint and the LS-swap motor mounts.

One of my snow tires had a tiny leak for years now. I took it off and went to a buddy's shop to dismount and inspect the damn thing. No issues, no holes, but I power wire brushed the bead lip, changed the valve stem, and when I re-mounted it I brushed lots of bead sealer on. Pumped it up and tested with soapy water looking for a leak. Found it. An old flat tire plug was blowing bubbles like crazy. I yanked it out and re-plugged it. No more bubbles. Now, this is not the first time I used soapy water to look for a leak on this thing. I even have dunked the whole thing in a swimming pool. No bubbles. For whatever reason, it finally showed itself.

yeah it's a damn shame but what can i do..I've had this car almost half my life and it's taken me a long time to get the car to this point.failure isn't an option. the trans went away on the way to work a few weeks ago.i hit the on ramp stuck my foot i it and it just neutral'd out on me.it did make a noise in reverse but other than that no action in forward gears.park still worked but nothing else.the gauge showed no temperature and the the fluid level was correct and red.it didn't have a bad smell either.i had put 130 miles on it the previous day and I'm glad it happened on the way to work Monday vs my travels on the Sunday.that would've been way worse.i actually bought the stage two version because it was more transmission than i needed and figured it'd be a bit of a cushion.
as far as the oil psi goes it was a new rotating assembly from scat but i didn't build the lower end / machine work so i can't speak to the working's there.i had the short block built @ a machine shop that was attached to a parts store that was around when my dad was young and it's no surprise that it was turned into a strip mall five years after i had it built so there's a dead end on that front.i did try a different style psi gauge( electrical to a mechanical) this summer just to be sure it wasn't my set up.i thought about putting a new pump in it but i don't think that's the answer plus it's a big gamble for me because if the pump doesn't fix it then I'd have to pull everything apart a second time.I'd rather invest a little more now and keep moving forward.
I'm gonna be very busy this winter but i had a lot of fun in the sun this year.it'll all be worth it again.

After 7"s of rain and seeing flooding on my road where I have never seen it I looked at it in the barn and if the road dries up maybe drive to work mid to later week. Still thinking about emergency brake.

I'm sorry you're going thru this, Chris.
I know how meticulous you are with your car and try to always do the right thing. I think it would be worth trying a new HD oil pump...and for the transmission, I could see your logic going with the stage II trans. A stage II compared to a stage I would be built to withstand more abuse. At least that's what we would immediately think.
At any rate, I wish you the best of luck. Had I lived closer I'd be happy to help you.

Found it. An old flat tire plug was blowing bubbles like crazy. I yanked it out and re-plugged it. No more bubbles..

That's why
A) plugs are supposed to be a temporary fix
B) a patch is supposed to go over the plug on the inside (also helps prevent ply separation by keeping air out of the plug hole) when the tire damage is where it can be repaired with a patch
