What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

Spent most of the day at the yard, and cleaned up the wiper linkage I got and preped the Olds radiator plate for phosphoric acid treatment. Cleaned most of my garbage out of the trunk too.

I would of been working on refurbishing a steering column, but some jagoffs got to the 5 g bodies at my local yard and cut the columns out with a g*damn SAWZALL. There wasn’t anything left to even salvage.
Which yard & what do they got. That reminds me of the knob polisher that cut the perfect black shoulder belts in a '78 Monte at Millerstown about 10 years ago. No reason or need, just did while I ran back to the house for my torx bit.

Replaced my canister purge valve on my Hurst today...also the ported vacuum switch...replaced every vacuum line under the hood and all connectors...cruise works better and choke finaly closes all the way. Runs smoother, idles better and a lot more responsive and rich exhaust smell is gone. Slowly working out the bugs...pretty much been sitting the last 20 years.

Finally was able to redeem the car from storage today. Store it off site for the winter , and with the Covid mandated restrictions the owners of the facility essentially held it hostage for a month.
Today was the first day for pickups allowed. A steady stream of boats, campers and cars out of there today.
Probably close to 100 units stored there.
Fired up and ran well all the way home, only issue is the inspection sticker expired while in storage.

It was Millerstown, they just got an 86 Cutlass in that’s absolutely beautiful inside. Pillow top seats, navy blue interior, vinyl top with no rot underneath. They also have a 79 Regal in that has a roof made of bondo. The pricks cut the column out of both of them, and ruined that crack free Cutlass dash in the process. Couldn’t of been bothered to take the last screw out of the crotch vent and ripped the cover almost to the end of the dash.

I think I finally figured my front brakes out.

What I think happened was that the original front calipers had some super contaminated brake fluid in them that rusted up the inside of the calipers. When I went to drive the pistons in to fit the new brake pads, I pushed all that rusty DOT 3 all the way back to the master cylinder. When I replaced the line on the passenger side, the banjo bolt had so much rust packed in it that I had to clean both sides of it out with a drill bit. I am guessing that the new caliper on the drivers side got some rusty crap that jammed the piston in the bore. Once I pulled the caliper off and extended it out some, it started working normally again.

I ended up flushing a bunch of fluid out and getting it mostly clean, but there is a non-zero chance that my brake lines are corroded upon the inside as well.

The best part is after all this effort, I now still need new pads and rotors. Good times.View attachment 146294View attachment 146295
Glad you found the problem.

Colonnades are really starting to grow on me. I reeeeeally want a '73 GS with a 455. Or a hot 350.

Does the mirror you have got the temp and compass built in as well? What model? Any photos?
I opted for the one without but they do have the same model with both, GNTX-341. I will hopefully have some installed pics of it tomorrow but for now a pic of it waiting for the stupid rattle can paint to come in.

Got a bunch of little stuff again, I feel like I am so close that I can taste it. Have to get a little more trimming done of the vents to get the second head unit to fit right today.
