What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

I got the transmission mated to the engine, and figured out that I had incorrectly used metric bellhousing bolts the last time around. I get to order some of the correct bolts on Monday. At least I finally got to install my G Force crossmember...

I finally had time to install my new ST solid 1-3/8" front sway on my Regal and it fit perfectly, no clearance issues at all.

Fixed the wobbly water pump pulley- error in procedure. There are 2 alignment t*ts on the back of the pulley that line up with holes in the hub. They weren't right. Reassembled only to discover a valve train noise...broken spring, worn valve seat....? Send it!

Drove it! For anyone that is still curious about the Progression Ignition that I installed awhile back, it is still running great I bumped up the timing again and WOT is spot on. I think I might be done playing with the timing as I don't want to have detonation. It's basically set to start at 10 degrees and then locked out at 40.

Got several things back together today. The most difficult was installing the pulse wiper motor. Installation is no different than a non-pulse, but it's that bottom bolt that is so incredibly difficult. I spent nearly 1-1/2 hours before i finally stuffed the socket with paper wads until I could barely get the bolt into the end of it, then used a piece of masking tape to hold it in. Don't know how many times I dropped the bolt down between the inner fender and firewall, or down the back of the inner fender to the door jam/outer fender. Fortunately, I was able to get it back each time without losing it forever. After that, I began reinstalling the instrument cluster. The '81 dash originally had gauges, but the cluster was "customized" by the previous owner with cutouts for aftermarket gauges. Until I can get a gauge package (A Jegs multi gauge package is supposed to be on it's way, with a shadow box for retrofit conversion to non-gauge cars) I am putting my old '78 cluster in. I also bolted the hood back on, disconnected the old heater core from the hoses, and installed the hoses on the AC airbox heater core while not losing more than about a cup or so of coolant, reconnected the battery and started it up, letting it run until the carb ran dry.
Still to do: hook fuel pump wire to accessory tap in fuse box, stereo and speakers install, power window/door lock wiring connections, reconnect my 3rd brake light, install glove box and door, and probably half a dozen other things as well.

I’ve never really cared about the audio in my 442 (the exhaust was the only sound I care about), but today installed a newer cheap head unit with blue tooth and usb. Does the job. Also got my front speakers working for the first time in a decade or so, a connection on the amp in the trunk was loose. Never really even realized they weren’t getting power.

I got the alternator repaired and this why I like dealing with a local reputable alternator/starter rebuild shop. I drove my GP to his shop and the alternator seemed to be working ok. He tested it and it was charging ok but since it was overcharging yesterday he told me to remove the alternator and lent me to the tools to do that. He replaced the voltage regulator and 10 minutes later I was installing it back in the GP. There was no charge and when I offered him $10 he told me never mind but I handed it him so he and his employee can get a cold drink later and I called it a tool rental fee...I like to keep people like him happy....
