What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2023]

The stock 200r4 transmission in my 88MC gave up The ghost in July after a tire frying exhibition.
I pulled it apart for inspection today and found repeated Drag Strip use has broken the overrun clutch housing spun the center out. Lucky me I have a endless supply of 20Or4 cores and parts. A spare mild built 200 transmission replaced it overnight. This one will be rebuilt just in case I have another failure.

Had to swap my driver side door with one off my parts car because I made the mistake of cutting the bad rocker out before fixing the door. I needed a good body line somewhere for reference but after getting the other door on I was able to replace the inner rocker and started on the outer. I like seeing other people's pictures so I figured I'd share mine.

this reminds me, I'm cutting the cab off my flood-damaged El Camino. does anyone want sheetmetal from the middle of the rear pans forward? it was caught in a flash flood. I've gutted it to the extent seen in the pic below, and only have to remove the front 4 body mounts.

Pulled a frame today.... it was "free" aside from labor and gas - we had to pull an engine/trans/rear end out of it and leave them behind, but I'm not sure what I'll do with it as it wasn't as nice in person as I was let to think.

Front control arms are great shape, and most of the frame is pretty decent, except some of the body mount holes. Most of it is standard 'washer repair' fare except for the last rearward on each side.

The left hand REALLY surprised me given how thick the metal usually is there. No rot o. The rails themselves, just the mounts and the rearmost ones are just, as said, those last two are horrible.

But for all that, it even has the factory dual exhaust hangers that I haven't seen on anything but low mileage/garage queens for a long time. So... it's not a waste, lots of little parts on it that ought to cover our fuel and labor.

I had expected it to be something I could take apart, have powdercoated, and build a nice frame to have something ready to slide under one of my 83s, but... those last to mount holes may render it parts and scrap metal.

In the last week(or thereabouts) I did my best at cleaning up the mess of wiring I left myself and while I’m satisfied with it, this will be redone from the ground up in the future.
It’s functionally safe, no crossed power and grounds, no exposed ends, every added circuit is separately routed, but it’s still a mess and it’s clear I just went with what I thought work instead of even a rough plan.

This is the only photo I have at the moment, A lot of this has seen a judicious application of cable ties and a really neat little piece of kit that I’ll put in my build thread to keep this shorter.

After that was some brackets for my HID ballasts:

The engine bay of this thing needs a case of purple power and a day’s worth of pressure washing.

Next thing I’m taking on is the trunk wiring and the battery box area. I’d like to put one or two plates in for fuse holders and bussbars for the amps that’ll eventually make their way back there eventually.

I did this to my son’s G-body (mostly today.)

This car has been in the works for a while. We had the dash fully installed minus the the double din radio. He decided on not putting in a 6 point cage and going with a 10 point a couple of months ago. I let out a sigh as I knew what this would entail, especially when he mentioned that he wanted the front down bars to be in the dash rather than exposed like mine. He has a professional chassis guy on the hook to put in the cage which made me smile as he wants it to tucked much tighter than I can pull off.

This morning I played hookie from work and was in the Philadelphia suburbs (3 hours from home) to pickup the cage. I have to get the door panels installed yet, but that’s not too difficult. And it needs those installed to get power windows to work anyway.

It’s not like I have much cookin’ with my car in the next couple of weeks (cough cough) But as always - anything for him and it’s a good reason to be in the garage ‘til midnite for the past week.

Edit : CopperNick how about changing the name of thread - ya missed a year, so take two - they are cheap

Ok so got the frame out of the 87 442 now working on stripping it down to send out to sandblasting.

Is this on the Sunday Monte? Or do you have multiple.
Only have the one '88 monte for now. Extra regals, yes, but montes, no just the lonely one.

I also pulled the air adjustable shocks from the rear of the car today, but, didn't get the new plain ones back in before sunlight faded. So I've got about 10 minutes of work waiting for me in the morning.
