I've been finalizing my front C/O mounting brackets for my 64 C10. I have the pass side upper & lower brackets tacked together as of tonight. I'll work on duplicating the exact angles/placement for the drivers side tomorrow (15° shock angle).
Dropped the HellKitty off at the dealership for some warranty work. DS door mirror was scratched up from the day I got it and there were a lot of aluminum chips in the air filter from when the upfitter drilled the hood for the pins.
I have been trying to resolve this for 9 months.
Woke up to no AC, 82⁰F in the house with it being 72⁰ outside. I have 2 good friends in the biz, 1 is high up in a medium sized company and couldn't get to it til this evening, the other owns his own company and does his own thing. I met friend 2 in Frederick, and he hooked me up with a cap and hard start kit. $70, gave him $100, 30 tip for helping a brutha out. This is the 3rd cap in 15yrs, which seems to align with the 5-7yr life cycle. He claims he's never had to go back on a cap after the hard start module (relay and additional cap?) was installed. Any of y'all HVAC guys got an opinion?

Yup, 100% spot on. I have oil heat backup and hot water; try buying oil parts once. It's a total scam. I'm good friends with both these guys, and they know my capabilities. Even the one I got my parts from cut me off several times while I was explaining how I tested. "You already told me the cap was bad."It's nice you have an HVAC guy that will help out. Heck of a lot more service than most people get.
My experience from friends and family that have HVAC work done is you would get a bill for $700 plus labor for "Unit not working, replace board" since most HVAC guys can only do 3 things, swap boards, charge freon, or pop rivet ducting together.
Plus good luck getting almost any HVAC part to do it yourself, the parts distribution industry in HVAC is the most cult club and won't sell you sh*t if you aren't a 'licensed HVAC specialist'. You can get damn near every residential electric or plumbing component from Lowes or Home Depot but good luck getting the simplest HVAC part besides a vent. You can buy every piece of refrigeration component for mobile equipment too.
Dad has done AC work on off highway equipment since he was a dealer tech in the 80's and he couldn't buy the fitting to pull a vacuum on the line set of his pre charged mini split he installed in his house this spring. He ended up using his R12 gauge kit and found an adapter fitting from an anhydrous ammonia fitting he found at the ag supply store.
If you search online for any info 90% of the responses you get are "If you are asking that question you are not a professional and don't have business touching that component, you need to pay the dude a bucket of cash to solve your simple problem. Buy once cry once".
Yes, I am salty towards the HVAC industry. It's a total setup by the HVAC industry to protect the HVAC industry. The more protective an industry is to itself the easier it is to do yourself.
