Swapped a spare 17058241 qjet I had (78 buick 350 model, lightly modded) onto my brother's '79 lesabre. runs like a top. he's trading it for a third gen camaro that won't start (hes a third gen addict, refuses treatment). easy come easy go.

On the bright side for payment in lieu of cash I accepted the two chevy qjets (had a spare in the trunk covered in mud) and a 6 foot spool of 3/8" steel line leftover from him replacing his fuel feed line.

Became a small engine mechanic.

Decided to put a muffler on the wife's family heirloom tiller. The old muffler had fallen off a decade ago probably and although it ran, it was WAY loud. Heat & Beat on the old 1/2" NPT nipple that was in the head out after clamping on it with the vice grips.

Found a muffler from the local small engine shop and of course it hit so I had to build a "header" from some black pipe.

Of course the pull cord clutch had been flaking out so as soon as I reinstalled it after putting the muffler on, it locked up after starting and wound the cord backwards. Then I couldn't get it started, and it was backfiring. I looked online and it means it probably sheared the flywheel key so I ran back to the small engine shop, grabbed a new clutch and key, put it on, and got it started finally.

Wow- a sideshaft Briggs and Stratton. NICE! When I was a kid we would bolt those to a bicycle, rig a pulley on the rear wheel, and run a fanbelt. Home built motorbike! Lemme see if I can find a picture. This is my chopper phase around 1967. I always got away when the cops chased me! FAST little bugger. Most guys used a washing machine pulley which was the same size as the rear wheel. Me I used a VW bug crankshaft pulley so I could top-end everyone.

I didn't imagine there would be interest in a 50 year old piece of worn out lawn equipment but I guess this IS the G body forum so I can't be surprised.

The guy at the small engine shop I got parts from asked what it was on and I said a 50 year old snapper tiller. He asked what the model number was and I was like, ummm, 5hp. He said give me a minute and dug up all the parts I needed, I was pretty impressed. I'm going back again if I need more parts.

He actually had most of the parts in stock but they were all in pretty old boxes. I paid $6 for a muffler, $1.90 for a carb gasket and $27 for the clutch rewinder so they were surprisingly cheap.

Restore it, like them restoration channels with the timelapses on youtube.

Ugh, you are going to try to get a guy with 4 project cars, in grad school, who just bought a house, & runs a side business to try to start a youtube channel doing timelapse resto videos? Ugh. I really need to start working on cloning myself.

That sounds highly dangerous and very entertaining. A must see.

Finished installing my "rebuilt" pump in the zero turn. Idler pulley for pump belt was seized. Went for a drive with the wife an hour away. Happened to be a dealer in the area that had the pulley in stock 😎😉 Grabbed it since we were already out that way 🤣 got home, finished putting it together, started the engine and bled the hydro system. Lots of air in it of course. Shut her down and gave it a couple of hours to let the air bubbles out of the oil. Took it out and mowed my lawn in about 25 minutes! Mind you it's 1.5 acres. Now I couldn't mow the whole thing since we still have lots of dirt from the build. But it's going to save us a lot of time mowing! So I ended up having to replace the missing pump pulley, seized idler pulley, oil and filter for the engine, air filter, hydro filter, oil, starter, and ignition coils since a mouse chewed the plug wires 🤬. I'm still a happy camper. I have about $775 into it total, including buying it. Not bad for a 72" cut zero turn.
