What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2021]

On Thursday, I reconnected most of the electrical wiring to the carport/storage remodel. I ran the new electrical/light cable for the feed room at the left rear corner. Too much stuff in the way to adapt the right rear corner to plug-ins, but both front corners got plug-in outlets. I then had lights via portable clamp-on lights.

(This pic is Friday evening)

Friday, I connected the feed room electrical plug outlet, and light switch. After that, I began a rearrangement of all the stuff to get access to the right rear corner light outlet, and to clear a path for the separating wall between the two areas.
So today, now that I am finished with my breakfast, I will go out to get measurements for the separation wall and make my materials list.

Snow rolled in Saturday so time for Ssow tahers on the wife's fusion.

Freind had a fusion that he got snow tires for 2 years ago in like February, used for 2k miles and then traded the car for a pickup in TX and they didn't want the tires so we ended up buying them.

Oh and BTW-

Ford Tin capped lug nuts can go die. They suck.

And the rusty Rainier hit the 2 and 3/4 million mile mark 😛

My goal is to hit 278k since I got the car with 178k. I'd love to hit 300k but that's probably another 2 years and I don't see me keeping it that much longer.

Got the parking lights, passenger headlight bucket and all of the driver's side headlight in the 41 Chevy. Wireing harnesses made for the lights but not yet connected.

More winter beater Rainier stuff...

I got moderately burned a few years back by a 'toe and go' alignment place (I take full ownership over that decision).

I always groan when alignment shops say they won't align your junk because it's worn out. Well 230k suspension bushings and worn ball joints wore my new tires kinda funky due to too much negative camber and the alignment shop didn't remind me my junk is, well, junk, and just plopped the toe into spec and sent me out the door after I did struts and inner and outer tie rods with a good alignment report. I naively thought cool, my junk isn't junk! Poor tire wear determined that was a lie.

Needless to say I have about 40k on my 60k set of tires and the insides are at like -5%, and the rear insides are cupped so bad the steering wheel shimmies when I hit some speeds. The outsides are at 45% so they technically are wearing to the warranty, but I just traded wear from the outside of the tire to the inside, and the insides are gone lol. I did put in new control arms so the alignment is decent now, but after my tires are shot.

So once a bottom feeder always a bottom feeder and the fact the thing has 275k and I'm not willing to put a $600+ set of new tires on it for a single winter I slummed my way to marketplace and found a 2/3 set of Firestone destination's for $150 ($840+tax new).

I gotta use dad's tire machine when I'm home for Thanksgiving and hope they don't need any balancing.

In and of itself, camber shouldn't kill the crap out of your tires. It needs a little toe to assist with that. You likely have a dynamic alignment that kills tires.

Don't bet on not needing that balancing. Some mfgrs put an indicator on the sidewall marking the "heavy" spot that is supposed to sit right beside the hole for the stem to even things out. Not sure if this is done anymore. Even a static balance using a bubble balancer is worth something compared to no balance at all.

Just as a quick QQ here, was all the repair work done solely on the front end or did the rear get some attention too? Asking here because front wheel drives can get twitchy if the rear axle has wear problems.

Yeah I assumed I had a bad alignment as it went through the travel due to the worn out parts.

I've put new front basically everything except a rack in and upper rear arms. I have oem lowers and oem panhard bar still.

I don't have access to an alignment machine so I'm just going to mount them on dad's machine and then take it to a shop for a balance if it shakes which I'm sure it will a little.

I just want to get another winter out of it.

This scenario sounds all too familiar...
