What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2021]

messed with the apt on the qjet on the truck. got it as best it can be without hooking up an afr gauge but the thing burns enough oil i dont wanna ruin the sensor part.
idk what the "proper" method is, but i would cruise 1500ish rpm, punch it, and keep turning the screw up/out .5 turn from the initial 1 turn from seated setting until it stopped getting uh gooder. ended up at 2.5 turns. keep in mind this carb was literally built from random garbage i had in my garage, and probably has around 300k on it. Long story short it was on my dad's 81 gp when he got it in the early 90s, he sold the car to my uncle when the trans blew and he kept the engine. out of curiosity about 15 years after that we picked the carb up to use on my regal with the first buick 350, but we took it apart, got distracted boxed it up, and lost every part but the airhorn, main body, and throttle plate. so every innard is from random qjets. it has matching jets and rods (side to side), but i have no idea what they are lol.
I also replaced the #5 plug with a spare, it was gummed shut. All 7 others were too lean if anything.

in short, dialed cobbled qjet with nary a single new part inside as best i can without hooking up an afr gauge. gets about 7ish mpg going 80 miles round trip a day to work at 3krpm.

2 1/2 turns out from completely bottomed is just about right and is usually suggested as a default or base position. Since your tuning exercise didn't mention what you were tweaking on the carb, have to assume here that it was either the idle mixture screw(s) or possibly the idle stop. Good to know someone knows how to tweak a Q-jet. Most of my carb time has been spent fighting with Hollies. The Q's I have encountered have mostly ended up as oversize paperweights. Think there may still be one under the basement wood lathe bench and a Dual Jet two barrel version around somewhere on the premises. Found that as an orphan on a trip to the parts yard; sitting there on a shelf with a bunch of other units, only one of its kind there and only one I have ever seen to have and to hold. Interesting piece of history. Now you have me wondering if I can figure out a way to hang it off an LS motor (LOL)

Nice. Any plans to lay some Typar or Tyvek over the plywood before you side or sheet metal or whatever exterior cover you are going to use?

Nick
I didn't get pic, but I used 15# roofing felt between the sheathing and T1-11 siding. Finished the exterior (minus the doors, and reconnecting the electrical to the lights) late today. Will get a pic tomorrow sometime.

As promised pics of carport being turned into storage, so that garage can be turned into a shop.
Looks like I actually did get a pic of the roofing paper on the wall.

What is left to do on the outside is the corner molding, side door, front door and jam, and drill hole to reconnect carport light wiring in from the outside junction box above the garage mandoor.

Looks good to me. (like I know) Any thoughts about insulation? Heard of a cheap type of insulation that is made from recycled blue jeans of all things, They shred 'em down to fibers and use a borax solution as both a binder and as a nuisance deterrent. Stuff is supposed to keep the rodents and the bugs out

Nick.

Been looking at, and considering insulation, but I need to clear a path to set up an interior wall to separate the livestock feed from the rest of the storage area (side door is to be access to feed area). Then I will run a separate electrical cable and light switch to the rear corner light outlet before I insulate.

That livestock feed is going to have the varmints all lined up, just waiting to grab their plates and gutlery and dig in. Being an interior wall and not apt to be load bearing to any degree, would that make using metal studs and sheet metal paneling a possibility? Can't speak to the pricing but wood for anything is anything but cheap right now. The metal substitutes are a bit more work to handle but if cleanliness and rodent invulerability is the goal then they should do the trick.

I took the Z for a ride today since it’s looking to be be about the end of the season here in western NY. I did order new coilovers for all 4 corners recently. I will be doing sway bar bushings, motor mount bushings and building strut tower braces over the winter for it. I also acquired a 1 year only, dealer installed trunk wing that I will be having painted and put on as well.

My step-mom had one of those. Her's was blue. Nice to see one survived, so nice. Ever consider a 3.4 swap?

I never thought I'd see the day where I was happy to see a clean Z24. But, here we are.
