This is a project... kinda.. haha

Scored this T56 6spd for $300.👀
Facebook marketplace post. I was a couple drinks in last night when I saw it and didn't think it was the right number..the woman was like do you really need it. YES.🤣

I'll go through it and build it up, it's a 1993 Fbody unit with a LS Front Plate already on it. Swap the LS Input Shaft in and some other stuff and it'll be ready to rock.🤘

That's a steal. Does the output spin when you turn the input? 93 would be either M28 or M29. I'm curious about the LS front plate? What did it come off of? What bastardized engine/clutch was it running?

All 7 gears in it work as they should, free spin, shifts, no bind. That's a very good sign, once I get in it I'll be able to see it all. Won't know what one of the two until I can get my end yoke in it and measure out a ratio of rotation.

That is a regular LS Front Plate they installed to run a really short internal push-type hydraulic slave on it, had it on the back of a BBC with the correct Flywheel, Clutch, & Pressure Plate Assembly but using the LT1 Bell Housing.

I'm used to factory LT1 stuff and factory LS stuff but seen the kits out there to put a T56 on the back of just about anything.

Started blasting somewhere between 46 and 50 years of paint and passorted redneckery off the redneck trailer sheetmetal - at least on the outside. Found a little bit of rust, along with layers of light green, black, tan, white, dk green, dark brown, and grey/silver paints. And some sort of textured coating somewhere within the layers.

Lots of pitting in the bedside metal. If you look at the top rh corner of the pic you can see it in the metal. Also has one corner behind the wheel arch with an eisenhower dollar sized rust spot.

HOWEVER. With the loose layers gone now it can be made one color without paint keeping on flaking off. Just going to hit it with a light sanding to give the primer a good surface to bite to.

Perhaps more importantly, rewiring can happen to make the factory taillights work as trailer lights without every type of crud imaginable galling all over me every time we touch, move, or shake something.

Should be able to outlive me as far as functionality goes now that it's getting stabilized.

Wrapped up the rear end swap on the '80 TA. We took a 1977 TA 4 speed posi rear with 3:23 gears and cleaned it up. New axle U-bolts, brakes, parking brake cables, brake hardware, pinion seal, driveshaft U-joints and balanced, poly sway bar bushings and pads, chrome cover, POR-15 black paint. Bled the brakes, adjusted the shoes and parking brake, and went for a test. While testing the BRAKE red light came on. Checked the reservoir and the rear was down a bit. Checked for leaks on the lines and found none. Refilled and tested again, down again, but by less. I think the rear seal on the master cylinder is leaking. Washed it off and will check again tomorrow. What perfect timing for that SOB to leak! AAAARGH!

Well, got my answer on that T56 really quick. 1993 unit, input shaft is a smaller diameter on the drive gear, less teeth. Need a 1994-02 Fbody Cluster Gear to make this work if I want to make this run in an LS, I have some other gears laying around. Or I'll look for a LS T56 core, the 5,6, and R in the back will work as-is.

LS T56 Input on the left.

There is a way to make the M29 work with an LS, I know a guy who did it, but I'm not sure what the secret sauce was. You can't simply slap an LS input in there because it won't play nice with the b*st*rd cluster gear in the thing. And while the GTO/CTSV used the same gearing, they had more cones in the synchros so are also incompatible.

That is why I'm looking for the front half of a Corvette T56 or any LS T56 with a destroyed back section, and combine parts.

If I can't seem to find that I'll put it back together as the LT1 setup and sell it.

I'm sure there's some busted parts unit in a salvage yard somewhere... car-part.com maybe?

Why the Corvette front section? I have a Corvette T56 that I want to convert for f body use and need a custom mainshaft in addition to the front f body stuff I thought?

went to the junkyard, got some stuff. turn signal stalk for the tilt column i forgot, found an engine bore cleaning brush on the ground, a door handle, and gas cap. and a 16" 8 bolt wheel from a van.
rip to the mint 72ish 460 f250 that was cannibalized since last time i was there.
also replaced passenger plug wires that got eaten when the last battery exploded.
