What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2021]

Made a fast run over to the supply house and scored some 3/8ths x 3/4 inch Gr 8 Caps and matching Heavy Hex Nuts. Popped the wheels off my axle project and drilled the existing bearing flange holes to 3/8ths to accept the larger fasteners, thus getting rid of the cheap metric bolts that came by default. Barked up my basement compressor and aired them up and hung them back on their axles. Last step will be to measure for length and shorten the threads on the axle stubs so that I can run down the nylock nuts and call that portion of the program toast. Already doing some noodling on what the trunions ought to look like. Can't get a premade item, non stock and no delivery date for one. Might be more fun to make one but the weather sucks and my body hurts.

I happened upon a T5 World Class trans from a 2000 Mustang at the wrecking yard over the weekend. I was at the yard for picking anything useful from an '85 El Camino, but the only useful thing I could get from it was a pair of taillights. Since this yard was 50 miles from home, I wanted to browse around to see if I could make the trip worth while, so I looked for items for my Datsun p/u, and also my Pinto.

I had my 1st customer today for bodywork and paint on a minor collision repair. My wife's coworker scuffed the bumper on a curb, and a couple quotes were pricey so I did the job. I got started this morning early, scuffed it down, used some Evercoat flexible filler, then prime, block sand, spray with custom mixed PPG color, and 2k clear! I'm super pleased with the results, and the customer is happy. Who knows, word of mouth referrals might allow some extra cash making on the side. I still need to wet sand and buff to get the blend done all the way, but it's slick. Huge shoutout to Donovan for giving me some tips the last few days, it helped alot, thanks my friend!

Grabbed some wheels at Lowes for my generator since the ones it came with fell apart. They were 1/2" like the generator axle. Until I measured with the calipers. Axle is .508" and wheels were .503". Decided to send them home with the 4# sledge until the axle ran out of length and didn't quite engage the outer bearing on the 2nd wheel. I'm going to have to cut the bearing races off of the f'ing axle to get it all back apart. There's $20 down the toilet and what's worse is the wheels were offset and I got at least one of them wrong. There may have been just enough room were I paying attention. Sickened by this, I decided to shift my focus to a $0 ghetto rig and see how that works out. Here's the mode of failure on the wheels.

You can see with the wheel on the bottom that I ran out of setup time, the 4 hour stuff moves pretty quick. Gonna have to restock on the original for stuff like this.

Drained the rad of the Caprice today, and changed the old stuff with some new Prestone. The mechanic who owned it before me, definitely maintained it, because it still had some green to it.

But at first, I tried removing the lower rubber hose which didn't come off, it's pretty much stuck to the block and the smog pump in the way, was a piss off.

Luckily the rad has a different petcock than the Pontiac does, so the coolant I was able to eventually rid of thankfully.

Then I spent time to burp the radiator, and she's healthy once again. Will replace the upper and lower pieces later.

Decided to do the oil change on my 1978 Delta 88 Holiday coupe today. According to my records, I only drove it about 900 miles last year. I'm not surprised by the low mileage since there were no car shows or cruise-ins to attend. I hope this year is different. I've had it out a few times a week since the weather has been nice now for the last month or so. The 403 runs perfectly and gets my "boat" up to speed with ease. The 3.23's help, too.

Drove it home from friends house where it's sat for 2.5 months.

Spunky.

keep in mind, this sat for 36 years in a driveway in a 300 person village in rural nebraska.
replaced bent pushrods, got it running. it died, distributor seized. tore apart the whole front of the engine, replaced everything.

got it running again. lit grounds on fire 3 times.

now its at my house. only blew 1 40 year old tire.

Still needs to be detailed, but that can wait for another day.
