What Kind of Oil Do You Use?

Mobil 1 syn or castrol syn.

You cant blame sludge on type of oil, its purely from lack of oil changes.

I used to be a religious user of lucas, but never again. It does exactly what it claims, but it foams up. Every oil has aeration preventative additives. By adding lucas you overload the anti aeration, and youve got foam not oil.

With todays oils you dont need it.

Shell Rotella 15.40, is the sh*t. The only thing is they removed the zinc additive. I hear great htings about Joe Gibbs oil as well.

I thought the same thing about the type of oil. I change the oil in her jeep every 2500-3000 because it has a display that reminds you every 2500 and is reset every change. When we first got it about 6months later I had a head gasket go. And I did the valve seals as well and it wasn't sludgy at all. So I think it was in the bottom end the whole time. I'm changing just for a piece of mind.

With today's oils they don't have the zddp additive. The jeep has a flat tappet cam.

I use plain, old mobil 5w-30 in my buick, and in the 64 GTO, we run straight 30w.

I use Valvoline house brands (Napa, Parts Master) and try to keep the intervals to 3000 in most of my cars. So far my stuff has stayed very clean inside. My Cutlass always has Delo 400 since my grandpa used it in his trucks. At 160K it looked great inside so I'll continue to use it.

I've been using Brad Penn oil for probably close to ten years now, that's what I recommend to all my customers on the engines I build them. I ran it in my circle track car back when I raced and now in my Monte, like JBreu says IMO one of the best oils out there, wouldn't run anything else in my SS. It's not recommended for vehicles with a catalytic converter because of emissions and plugging of the converter or something like that I remember reading. I've also read when running E-85 it is not recommend because it can cause a kind of build-up and deposits if the oil is left in the crankcase in cold weather for a long period (like over winter storage or longer). But like I said I have ran it for years in race cars with Methanol and E-85 with no adverse effects.

Valvoline high mileage with a can of BG MOA..

In my Ranger I typically run Mobil 1 Synthetic High Mileage. I try to grab as much as I can when the parts stores have it on sale (usually 5 quarts and a filter for $33). If I'm out, and its cheaper or on sale, I spring for the Royal Purple. In the Monte, Mobil 1 Conventional every 3,000 miles.

Anyone run sea-foam through the crankcase before an oil change?

Brad Penn in all three of our cars. One has 383 with Flat Tappet cam. Other a 406 Roller motor on E85. The new motor will be on Brad Penn too. Best oil out there hands down, plus it's green.
