Hey Brian,I was actually thinking of blacking out all the trim, besides re-doing the window frames and pillars.

I think that would be a good idea. I imagine your back bumper will be the painted the color of the car so I think that if you had the trim chrome it wouldn't look as good as all the trim black. I'm biased tho cause I painted all my trim and bumpers the color of the car and used rubber surround for the windshield and I like how it turned out

Jack, I do have the wing, and it doesn't interfere at all. I only use it because at highway speeds, it breaks up that dead air space at the rear of the wagon, and blows the snow off the glass. Between that and the heated rear glass, I get a clean rear view.

Mark, I guess you can also look at the wing as an improvement to the aerodynamics, if fills in the void in the rear then you don't have that vacuum to pull

Found a pic of the 56...would have been either 61 or 62...we lived there twice...not for two years, twice in 2 years...nuckin futs, IA to MN twice. Such are the fortunes of a radio announcer's family.

There was a red/white 56 wagon (as was this one) for sale here last fall...unfortunately it was $15K..nice updated interior, shitty chrome.

awesome wagon. i found an old pic of my first wagon . ill get it posted soon.

Brian,
I love the old black and white photo of the '56 wagon. You're right, just a few years ago they were obtainable at a good price.
Even 4-dr's they're asking stupid money these days.
One of my first cars was a '56 Chevy 210, 2-dr sedan, with a 3-spd, and 265 V-8. It was black and white two tone. This was back in the mid '60's, and the car was not street legal.

Not too long ago, a friend of mine was selling a '56 sedan delivery. I was after the car for years. Finally I gave up. He sold it not too long ago.
I like the '56 body style over the '57.. '55 was actually my favorite year. In grade school, I always drew '55 gassers on everything.

Why a wagon?, hugely practical and it makes a great sleeper if that's your bag.

More than any other car I regret selling my '83 Cutlass wagon the most.

Roger.

I noticed a few posts here about deleting the deflector.

It's purpose is to deflect air down the tailgate, helping to prevent exhaust fumes entering the car.
This is an important safety issue, unless your tailgate is perfectly sealed you are potentially risking your own and any passengers lives.

The bean counters at GM didn't sanction the extra cost of a deflector without good reason.

And it's a good place to mount lights too.

Roger.

my wagon didnt come with a wing either.
