Where to start? First things first.

Disconnect the arm going to the choke (butterfl/flapper) if you can and lock it open with a piece of wire (you can probably do it without disconnecting if you have to). I once held one open with an alegator/ roach clip, clipped on the choke blade. you just ant to force it to stay open temporarily.

The car will probably run bad until it warms-up, since the choke is supposed to be closed until it is warmed-up, so if you can get it to warm-up first it would be best. This works alot like when you stick a screw driver in the choke to start a flooded car, but you really can't test drive with a screw driver sticking out of your carb.

Try it and let me know.

Thanx alot man I feel good about this one. So what would be making the flap stay shut? Isnt there somthing that is suppose to tie into that lever by the choke that makes the flap flip? I see that when Someone presses on the gas from in the car I can see that the flap moves about a couple millimeters not even closing all the way or opening up like it should. So does this definately make sense to where when I am giving it WOT its only allowing me to go so fast becuase of not enough air into the carb? Because Im sure its not getting what it needs being partially closed. You need goood spark and air for a bigger boost in speed correct? Ya'll answer me before the a.m I want to drive it to work again tomorrow thanx.

Yea it has to be that butterfly valve because I have never seen that thing swing open and closed like it is suppose to. Hopefully I can attach it sumhow so that its intune with the throttle?? That should solve my really bad plug issue for the most part and the bogging ! I cant wait to check it out tomorrow! I will let yall know

yeah there should be something controling it, but I am not certain what type of choke a 3.8 has. Follow the rod down towards the base of the carb/ manifold. If you have an electric choke there will be a black round pod off of the side of the carb (electric choke).

Make sure you have power to it. Test light or meter at wire terminal, if there are 2 wires one is a ground, if there is only one it is hot with iginition, if there are 3 you are looking at the wrong part - haha). If you have power than the choke pull-off is bad (black round pod). The b*tch is, if its original it is rivited on and will have to be drilled off. The replacement one will come with self tapping screws.

If you need to drive the car tomorrow, try to lock it open (make sure not to use anything that will fall into the carb). I drove my old GP for about a week once like that. It will not run right, but it will run better than with the choke closed.

If none of this works, remember you are listening to a guy named StooPud

fixing it should fix most of your problems. you are fowling the plugs because you are basically flooding the car as you drive. Make sure to change your oil when you ge tit all worked out. it probably is contaminated with gas by now.

See its like stuck just about to where it is going to close with about a half inch gap going into tha carb from top level. I remember my buddy trying to open it up more with his hand and it was like stuck. Something is making it stay closed partially. P.S. I like to work on my own sh*t dont get me wrong my "buddy" was an old timer you know how quick they are to jump on a q jet. 😀

I just changed my oil and filter the other day! I should be good for a minute but I used Advanced Auto's Oil. I had to get atleast a good 4hp with the sh*t. When its runnning good I will get sum good stuff.
