Which flywheel do I need?

if your concerned your pedal travel won't release your clutch here's the measure of a stoke with a 3/4" master cylinder and what travel you'd have at your clutch...

1/2" - .21
1" - .43
1 3/8" - .59

one other thing is that there is a rod that travels from the pedal mounting bolt to the lower bolt for the master cylinder that stops the firewall from flexing. You'll find that rod on an F body standard set up....

Yeah I saw that bracing on the fbody pedals, I may have to fab something up if it seems to be an issue. Does my set-up look similar to how yours is? Is that how your master cylinder is mounted approximately? If 1 3/8" is the amount of stroke that master cylinder has it might be okay...yeah?

The outlet is pointed to the steering shaft, yes, but it doesnt seem close enough to cause any kinking. I'm more worried about the brake booster being right on top of the reservoir line, I dont know how the clearance will be on that.

I will check the distance between the brake and gas pedals tomorrow, I cant remember off hand. The fuse box clearance seems decent though.

Thanks for the pictures I am doing the exact same thing right now. I have a howe throwout bearing too. Keep us informed..maybe you can post the template for the bracket?

So the rod positioning seems fairly normal then? I was thinking for sure somebody was going to say "that's not going to work".

I will post up a template of a bracket when I create one. I need to find some pics of f-body pedals before I consider it and the one website I was referencing I completely lost somehow. My main priority is getting this all mounted properly first. I didn't realize people were using different throw out bearings, I was just going to buy a clutch kit and use whatever came with it. ZOOM makes good clutches, right?

the rod has to be positioned so it travels straight into the master and there is no need to make a templet....just install everything and measure where the pin for the rod has to be placed...remove and weld the pin in place...

The reason I'm installing a Howe thro out bearing is because I don't like how close the slave cylinder is to the headers, I have a heat shield on it but there's no reason to take a chance on it failing from the heat and plus I can cut the tab where the slave cylinder is mounted to clean up that area a bit...

so do you remember your post back on page 2 when I thought you may have a problem or two with the clutch pedal?..

"I'm actually going to make my own. I figure its just a rod with a piece of rubber on the end, right?"....

As far as I'm concerned the pedals are the hardest part of the project...

Reading Comprehension> You. He was asking me for a template for the firewall bracing, not the master cylinder mounting position.

While I appreciate your help, I don't think it's necessary that you talk down to me. I said "I'll make my own" in jest because you were mocking my intelligence and I figured rather than being dramatic and calling you out on being grumpy, I'd just "laugh it off". My original intentions were to buy a John B. pedal, do you remember THAT post? Like I said, I appreciate the help, but if it's a major inconvenience for you to provide it without being sarcastic and cynical please don't bother. I am entirely capable of figuring this out on my own, I just figured it couldn't hurt to get a second opinion.

I was just joking but since your entirely capable of figuring it out yourself then you should delete this thread but you're confusing a second opinion for instructions and direction...

I've been on forums long enough to know that they are full of people who "know it all". I like to compare their advice to personal experience and use my best judgment. I've been stressed about finals, I usually don't acknowledge people's e-"attitudes". There I justified my thread, half apologized, and here's a smiley to show that I don't take myself too seriously

On a more thread-relevant note, I was thinking today about the possibility of creating some kind of spacer to pull the master cylinder away from the firewall and maybe even offset some of the angle at the mounting flange. It probably wouldnt be thick enough to compensate for the inch+ that the rod extends past the pedal but maybe being further from the pivot it would allow for a more horizontal throw.

edit- I like that howe throw-out bearing, that's like how the newer fbodies have it stock isn't it? I heard that design had some issues though. I'll leave that to a future modification most likely.
