Who drives their G body in the snow

I had an '84 Regal with a 3.8L and factory limited slip rear ... that car was by far the most fun car I have had in the snow. Thats the great thing about snow too, you don't need power to have fun. Plus, it got around so easy because of that rear

I drive mine all year, partly because I'm a poor student, partly because it's rusty and I don't care about salt, and partly because it's great in the snow. It's completely unsafe to drive like an idiot in these cars, so no speeding or being reckless (insurance plus). It's easier to not get stuck if you drift in deep snow, so bonus points. I only have gotten stuck when I stop to push people's cars out of my way on ice, but they push me out too, so it's win-win.

This was my first car so I really had no choice. I bought it in Fall 2008 and every winter has been totally nerve wrecking and I have not been happy about it. My Regal's a total champ and I really don't mind rear wheel drive in the snow. The thought of crumpling up the sheet metal somehow or just constantly getting salt on the frame was what bothered me. This year will be different though. I've been saving up and now a '99 Buick Century will be taking the full force of winter this year.

Fun Fact: For the last two winters I ran studded tires but my first winter driving RWD was spent on nearly bald tires. That winter the studded tires were mounted on my brother's dd. A '71 GMC Sprint which at some point in its life got a 305 H.O. from an Avanti.

My car saw two snow storms since Ive owned it. One storm dropped 3" of snow and about 1/2inch of sleet on top. Didnt think she'd make it outta the drive way, but the sleet was like rock salt and actually gave it some grip. I dont know if this cars rear is a LSD, but she went everywhere in the ice and snow with very little effort. Same with my 70 cutlass S. That car saw a lot of snow back in the day and never wrecked or got stuck. GM differentials are hard to beat.

Well, it's snowing out right now and I don't even have the snows on yet! Worst thing about the first snow is the amateurs that blast along like it's still summer. I let them go and make the 6 O'clock news first, then I'll venture out.

Mark,
Pretty early snow for you guys. I don't ever remember it snowing in October up in NY. Maybe further north, but not in the city.
I know what you mean with the yahoos that think, "what's alittle snow". And of course, those are the ones that end up wrapped around a pole, or into a whole line of parked cars.

I used to drive my wagon in the snow on a regular basis when I still lived up in NY. It hasn't seen snow in over 20 yrs. That's probably why the car remained somewhat intact.

BTW, I like your Mr. Natural cartoon message..R.Crumb rocks!

Yeah, this is definitely the earliest snow I've seen in NY...weird.
I drove my Regal through last year's CRAZY winter. 2 major snow storms and a few minor ones. Gotta say, nothin like rwd in the snow. Personally, I think it's much easier, much more fun, and I never get stuck.

Thank's Jack, me and Mr. Natch go back a long ways. When I was in Ft. Hamilton I used to frequent a little head shop up around 86 st that always had a cardboard box on the counter full of underground comix. I have a bunch of ZAP!, Freak Brothers, Last Gasp, Big *ss, all the goodies. I used to drive VW bugs and they were great in the snow but the salt just dissolved them. After I fixed the few rot spots, I undercoated the whole bottom of my wagon before I put it into service. Then in the Spring I wash the underside with soap.

They go goos some wieght and snow tires . Rather have rear then front wheeled drive .

But with so few decent ones left I would not drive one in winter if it was given to me . I love these cars .

I like how someone gets a low miles rust free dream car and 3 year latter when its scrapped complains
