Why do some people get so upset about low emissions.

I have been driving since back when the only pollution device was the PCV valve, and people bitched about that too. Let's face it, cars are so, so much cleaner now, and that's a good thing. Ever go to a non testing state? Ever see the POS cars operating there? Imagine a NYC or LA with no testing. Let me tell you, I flew into LAX in '70 and you could see a dirty brown sh*t stain hovering over the city. Temperature inversion traps the smog and smothers them. I was not comfortable breathing that air for the short time I was there. People, being the cheap *ssh*les they are, have to be forced to maintain their cars, or they won't.

Mark, I flew into LAX a few times in the late 70's and I remember that brown mushroom over the city as we flew in to land. I was lucky though cause I was working in Mojave Dessert near Palmdale on aircraft going through FAA certification. There are thousands more cars in LA now but the air is so much cleaner. The biggest polluter that isn't discussed much are homes and small buildings. They are pumping out pollution 24/7 with heat or a/c and using alot electricity but nothing much is said about that.
