Who said the vent tube was for excesss fluid runnoff?. You won't blow a seal on a 700 r4 if your over by about a quart. If you have too much the pressure builds up and if there is too much oil the oil comes out of the vent. We had to run the powerglide low on oil or the pressure would spit the oil out of the vent and we could get black flagged if it was noticed

...if I'm not mistaken the 700 has a vent tube so you can't damage it if you overfill it.....
a quart past full isnt bad...but if you fill it too much, there will be a pressure buildup on the pump seals...
Why didnt you just cap off the vent to prevent spilling trans fluid on the track?

If we capped it we'd blow it up. We even had the vent line running up the firewall to stop the fluid from exiting. We'd run the power glide in 1st gear the 25 laps and hit the 6300 rpm chip twice a lap...talk about abuse..

and I'll add that 6300 is rediculous but the tracks here in Canada use that chip, the tracks in the US use the 5800 chip at most tracks which makes sense for a 350 with stamped rockers

Put 5 more quarts in it. It shifts into gear put barely will move forward and reverse engaging but does not move????

What could the issue be?

did you run it long enough for the oil to heat up?

where did you get the transmission from?

fluid doesnt have to be warm to create pressure.....

No, I didn't let it heat up. I have to let the transmission oil heat up to drive the car?

transmission is used but worked before I got it.

I know that, I was wondering how long he ran it and if it was long enough to fill up the converter. Are you always looking for an argument?

how long did you run it? You do need to have it at operating temp to check the fluid level tho so I'd run and see what the level is
