I have a similar set up as far as the engine. I set my car up for racing so some of my suggestions my not apply. My engine is a 1971 engine as well. Here's what I have done to the motor. Cast iron 4 barrel manifold, EGR blocked off. 1" carb spacer. Quadrajet carb. Shortened accelerator pump piston. Bigger jets with thinner rods on primary side. High volume needle and seat no carb filter. (decreases flow on top end) Secondary side, Thinner rods with a "B" hanger (maximum lift) Adjust air wrap to come in at 3000 RPM (this is wear my stall convertor comes in) Distributor, HEI with different module lighter springs brass contact cap and rotor high performance coil MSD 10.5 wires special cut copper spark plugs. Stock cam, headers with X pipe flowmasters. True roller timing set. New bearings new springs and rocker arms.Thinnest head gaskets I could get my hands on. Need a high volume fuel pump or do like I did, Grand National fuel tank, 4.3 liter pump. My car runs a 1/2" fuel line to front of car, then goes to 3/8" line to carb. I use a T so that on the other side of the T is a 1/4" return to the tank. When the carb is wide open,a quadrajet can use 12 PSI of fuel otherwise it is sent back to the tank. Use a fuel injected fuel filter as the entrance is 3/8" on both sides. Also, run synthetic oil. As far as the rest of the of the car with a stall convertor, built trans and gear, the car runs low 14's

X2 with all points mentioned. I was laughed at by my friends, until my 71 pulled a front wheel on street tires while the nay sayers were standing there. I loved that part. Oh, I had a stock cam. The set up was all stock except, A '69 4bbl intake (yes it was iron), And Q-jet from a 500ci Caddy motor, Hooker headers, and a 10inch TQ converter, TH350 with a shift kit, and rear coil springs that were out of a 68 pickup. It launched very hard.

Were the springs from a 1968 Chevy c10 or c20? 'Cause I would love to raise mine in the back if I could. Could you send me a picture of your 71 ...?
I had a 1968 Chevy C20 and I have the springs still.

I got one race suggestion, Find some stainless steel plates to block off the exhaust crossover. It keeps the carb and intake cooler for better density into the cylinders. An old racers trick. I had it on my 71's iron intake. My best was a 13.8 with open headers. And I had a 71 cutlass 4 door.

Do you think those old truck springs would fit under one of these G-body cars? Like my Cutlass? I want to give it more of a lift in the back more than my air-shocks can. I would love to launch and raise it up a bit.

Very good point about blocking off the heat riser under the carb. I forgot to add this when I gave the engine info. I did do this too. I have had this car in it's present state for 23 years. Brains foggy. 😀 By the way my times are conservative.

Nope, they won't fit. I kept those springs until '07 when i tried to put them in my 88 CSC. Unbelievably, they were too short!!. I bought my car in '03 with hi lift springs from a wagon then took them off not too long after that(Too high!!!). I put air bags in a standard set I had in '07 (I hate air shocks), but they didn't hold up past 2010. So, now it has the wagon springs back in it.

I hear you on the brain fog. I have my moments also. :? My '71 has been gone since '84. I built it in '81.

The Street Demon 625 cfm is $349.95 through Summit. Contact Cutlassefi, mostly on the Classic Olds board. He is a Erson and Lunati dealer plus does custom grinds. I know a lot guys run the Voodoo line but he only suggests them with ported heads. A lot of fast Olds run Voodoo cams. Bullet cams are also in some fast Olds. Any Olds specialist should be able to help you out.

13.8 was all i could get out of my '71. It was a heavy 4 door after all. My 88 is way lighter, but still has the stock 7.5 rear and my tire are grippy. A recipe for breakage. I'm saving for new suspension pieces now. My order of attack is engine (done), T-5 transmission (done), Suspension, Interior, then body. I'm going where few have been, as far as my rear suspension and differential goes. I've got some radical ideas spinning in my head for my baby.

Thanks, I know that haha. I am writing down stuff from each of everyone's response to keep in mind. By any chance does anyone know what vehicles I could get a posi yoke out of for my Cutlass? It has a Limited Clip Differential. I had a whole Buick Grand National rear-end but I sold it to pay off the fines and lawyer.
