Hey guys, just letting you know that I am still working on the car. Today I sprayed the motor down with degreaser and went to town cleaning it. You can now actually see the original gold paint. I need to hit it with degreaser again Monday (as I work Sunday). This next week I will be slapping gaskets on it and getting a new timing chain. Can't wait to get this thing running and in the car. 🙂

:bump: Hey everyone, just posting on here to let everyone know the progress is still going. I have some new ideas I wanted to run by people on here for their input. Anyways....

First, I have decided (not completely) that I am going to convert my braking to a power assist brake system out of a diesel cutlass. The reason for this is I found it can add more horsepower (potentially). My mom had a G-body Cutlass with a 5.7 Diesel Oldsmobile Motor in it that was no good so my dad replaced it with a 350 Rocket or a 403 (can't remember off hand) out of a another G-body Cutlass he had. He said when he had it set-up with the power assist out of the diesel it gained more hp and was a mean SOB. I know the conversion could be strenuous but I would like to do it for the know how. Any thoughts on this?

Second, How would i go about with a rear lift? I want a rear lift (maybe 3 or 4 inch) without just using my airshock set-up. There is a Buick Regal that runs around my town of Council Bluffs that has a very high rear lift on it. I would like something similar.

Lastly, Could my stock 350 Rocket run a mini NOS bottle? Or would it need to be a little more high performance (cam, bore, pistons, etc)? Please let me know!

I am not sure whether or not you would see any HP gains. You are actually adding more load to the Powersteering which could, in turn, rob you of a few HP. It is entirely possible that I am mistaken, it does happen, but I think you would be better off with the vacuum booster as it only robs vacuum under braking, unless your boster is leaking. Hopefully, someone else withh chime in with more "Documented" knowledge here. The "Butt-Dyno" tends to feel power because you want it to, not because it is really there.

The gain is having assited brakes with a large cam. An electric booster would also work the same with a radical cam that doesn't produce enough vacuum. You can run NOS but make sure your tune is spot on. The weakest link will be your pistons. Cast pistons are weak and rods are also soft for a forged rod. The block and crank are plenty strong.

Yep that's surely a leftover 1970 motor! Your heads lower the compression, but still a powerful motor. You'll be smiling a lot when driving it. 8)

I'll be smiling more now because I am upgrading to a 1971 Oldsmobile 350 Rocket bored .30 over that my dad is giving me. 😀

Bored .30
Flat Top Pistons
Aftermarket Cam
Edelbrock Performer Intake
Holley Double Pumper Carb
#5 Heads

Guy who built it said that he had to keep replacing motor mounts in his '79 Cutlass because it was powerful.

Now your talking power. Make sure you install parts to support that power. Good flowing headers, mufflers, a performance stall torque converter, etc... :twisted:

I will be 🙂 I have the headers and mufflers, the torque converter will be here shortly. I am getting a shift kit in the transmission and a floor shift for the set-up too.

Hey gents, just a heads up. I will be trying to start the "new" Oldsmobile 305 Rocket (Bored .30 Over) tomorrow. A little bit of specs for you that I know about it....

==Oldsmobile 350 Rocket==
* Bored .30 Over
* Performance Cam
* Flat-Top Pistons
* Edelbrock Performance Intake
* #5 Heads
* Performance Oil Pump

This is just what I know right off hand. The guy who owned it before us said it ripped up his motor mounts a few times. It's supposed to have around 525hp but we won't know for sure until tested.

I am too excited for this. If we get it to run tomorrow I will post a video. If it runs then next weekend we will be removing the 307 and installing this beast.
