Don't feel bad,saw a guy driving a Monte SS that I have never seen out of his garage today.Talked to him for awhile about it and said I was interested in it.Said his bottom dollar was $5K.Lol.

5K doesn't sound bad for an unmolested original paint car, here absolute beaters in prime or with filler smeared all over them, nightmare interiors, and dubious powertrains are asking 3K and up. Clean originals are 10K and up, when they rarely come up for sale.

Holes in inner and outer wheel houses, trunk and front floorboards.Column shift with bench, faded interior, cracked dash, worn out shocks and springs,150k on car.Thats just a quick walk around.Quite a few nice Monte's around me for not much more.

Understood, didn't look that bad in the pics. Sounds like it got used every winter and they never really worried about flushing the bottom side. The rest is to be expected on a 30 year old G body

Personally, never understood why anybody would order an "image" car with a bench seat, but there seem to be a lot of them

I'll be honest, the G-body pricing as of late has been what has spurred me to knuckle down and finish mine. I had an offer to sell with stipulations on finishing techniques(color/interior/wheels) but we didn't see eye 2 eye on value in the end.

This one is for sale in my area, I sold him the header panel, would be a bargain for the right guy but still a ton of work. https://dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/cto/d/1979-chevy-malibu/6452903812.html

My biggest problem with G-bodies is the crappy plastic interiors being damn near shot no matter how well someone takes care of it. Rust, engines, etc are easy fixes for me, the interior will nickel and dime you to death.

Definitely agree on delicate interior. No better way to describe it then plastic, plastic, more plastic.

I still see a lot of non h/o 442 cutlass' for around 1,000, nice ones for 3-4.

Which begs a question, was the Cutlass produced in more prolific numbers? Even Regals seem to be more available than a Malibu.
The A/G-body Malibu was only produced from '78-'81. The A/G-body Cutlass and Regal were both produced until '88.
