What carb are you using? If you're using a Q-jet carb you might need a spacer between the carb and air cleaner housing. Usually a 14" x 3" open element is pretty standard.
Now how about an introduction?

Raise the fenders? How like adding more to the fenders. body shop type.
Or disassemble and raise up 1/2" and reassemble
