Perhaps it was RARE!?!? 1985 Oldsmobile H/O concept ??!?

Sounds like what your neighbor had was a 1985 Cutlass with a Hurst Aero kit on it, 122 kits were sold, it a kit was installed on an 81-87 it was a Hurst Aero Commemorative, if installed on an '88 it was a 20th Anniversary H/O and came with a membership to the H/OCA and a serial tag once a vin was mailed in to Hurst. Doc Watson only made 3 or 4 prototypes... I say 3 because it's believed car #001 and #002 are the same car just at one point sold to Joe Hrudka and then sold back to Doc according to #003 owner Larry Simpson whom I spoke to at last years H/OCA meet. I currenly own car #001 which was Doc Watson's personal daily driver for almost 30 years. After Doc passed in 2016 it went to auction to pay his debts. Car does have a prototype Hurst push button shifter that they put in at Mr. Gasket (owner of Hurst at the time) which is no longer functional and it's had several engines including a 640ci DRCE. Has C&C T-tops, Flo-Fit seats, 18" Hurst Rims. It's a fun car to drive, gets tons of attention, more than any of my other cars and I've never had any negative feedback with exception to a few blowhards online but hey, it's not for everyone and it was the '80's... It's the last of the cars Hurst sanctioned and converted so it's rare and has history. And yes it is a Hurst Olds...

Nice car. Sucks that the electronic shifter died. What motor is in it now?

Currently a 307, used to have a 455 and a Ram Rod/W31 350.
Doc drove it daily so the 307 suited it after awhile and has well over 230k miles on it, speedo gear finally went.
Well upkept mechanically as well.

Maybe you missed the prototype Hurst shifter in the console and the issues mentioned...
Column from a Regal was installed years later after the PCBA failed due to exposure, I have someone currently doing an ICT test on all the contacts to locate the failure to get it working again and then will have it potted over with Macromelt to prevent future corrosion.

I get everyone's antagonistic, sarcastic and rude comments... it's one of the reasons quite a few people I know in the community don't visit forums much or most social media platforms to share their years of knowledge and stick to the email lists and club meets.
ROP was singlehandedly destroyed by their disrespectful top commenters and became cliquey with sarcastically rude criticism... used to be a site filled with impressive knowledge, yes most of it was lost in the crashes but that had little to do with contribution from people with a wealth of knowledge.

The rear deck spoiler you have is BEAUTIFUL, and in my opinion, a lot nicer than what was on the factory 83/84 H/O. It flows with the cars body lines better. I personally love all the oddity and niche vehicles regardless of what hatters have to say, and look at what actually matters, and that's what each niche vehicle represents and "did" for that particular "carline" and or vehicles history. One reason I left The GN club scene is because 99.99999999999% believe the ONLY GN there was is the 86/87's....all others are garbage, the 82's the hot airs ect ect....and if you own one, your looked down on and ridiculed. These inbreds are incapable of understanding that without the 82's and the hot airs, there would be no 86/87 intercooled GN's. Each part of ANY vehicles past is crucial to what the car is today! ...Its all about respect, and unfortunately, few have it .

These cars are far from perfect but I like them for what they are. The last full frame RWD 2 door performance Oldsmobile's built. At least Olds squeezed a couple more HP out the reliable Olds 307, upgraded the 2004R and got the 8.5" in them as soon as possible. I don't mind that prototype spoiler and the Aero kit was a try at something different, I almost pulled the trigger, one went for around $300 on eBay 15 years back.

This is something I personally have a pet peeve with. The new Lincoln’s are bashed in reviews for their push button shifters but I’ve been driving one for a while have to say I now prefer it over to a physical shifter. Moving the buttons to the instrument panel frees up a lot of real estate in the floor console.
