Prototypes without documentation are virtually worthless. Cutlasses trying to be an
H/O with a 3.8...you guessed it. Worthless. And if there's a prototype out there that nobody took pictures of....again....WORTHLESS. All you'll get out of me is a "Cool story, bro."
Cutlass GT was 1988. Local NC company thing. A few hundred "conversions" but it didn't consist of ANYTHING performance enhancing. Stock Y drivetrains only. I think around 200 were produced but the number plates for the consoles said something like "XX of 400".
The
H/O package Turna mentioned was likely the ones by Hurst Specialty Vehicles (first made by Action Products), and Doc Watson marketed the heck out of it. But pretty much they were never an "official" Oldsmobile-sanctioned thing. There were two versions of the kits. And a couple different sets of stripes you could get with the kits. I used to have a couple of those kits that said Action Products on the boxes, and some kit components (gigantic boxes, by the way), but got rid of them many moons ago as I never found a suitable 88. It would be a nice PITA to install one of those kits. Not impossible, but they were going to take a bit of skill sets. If someone put the kit on a 1988 Cutlass, it was considered a "20th Anniversary"
Hurst/Olds. If put on a 1981-87 model Cutlass, it was considered a "Hurst/Aero". Kits came with both decals for that designation, which was kind of cool.
88hurstolds is the resident 88
Hurst/Olds "Aero" guru. Maybe he'll chime in with more info on these.
And whoever said the Aero Coupe cars were *ss...maybe they weren't. But there's a reason they never fugged up a Cutlass with one of those kits.
🙂
Specialty cars for the end of the Olds G-body line had some people trying to get their last $$ out of them. WEAK attempts. There was an "LV2" that I BELIEVE Oldsmobile did sanction. The conversion was done by Action Products IIRC. Not sure about that 100% though.
The 88 Cutlass GT was ironically similar to the "LV2", but generally local to the NC area. This was a NON-Olds sanctioned car as well. I think the 2 tone looked good though.
And of course, the 88
H/O
I've heard stories about the Cutlass GT having leftover
H/O parts etc., it's BS.....AND I'M PUTTING THIS IN ALL CAPS SO EVERYONE CAN HEAR THIS- NONE OF THESE CARS CAME WITH "LEFTOVER"
H/O PARTS. BECAUSE "LEFTOVER" PARTS BECAME PARTS IN THE GMSPO. OR THE TEIR 1 SUPPLIER WAS REQUIRED TO HAVE A MINIMUM OF SERVICE PARTS ON HAND FOR A DESIGNATED PERIOD OF TIME IF THEY PUT THEM ON THE CAR, SO THEY COULD HANDLE ANY WARRANTY CLAIMS.
