A 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone is about the best penetrant I have ever came across. If you can stand the smell, Aerokroil or PB Blaster is pretty good stuff too.

Didn't think about the acetone, that would work pretty well.

Back to the ls thing, If I got a 4.8/5.3 for $600 that didn't need to be rebuilt, is a swap doable for under 1k?
I know it would need a different oil pan and mounts

Not a chance unless you can wire it completely yourself, have a fuel system laying around including lines and have or have access to HP Tuners for free. If you try a carb swap, then still no chance for $1000.

It's a $2K gig doing most of it yourself and being ingenuitive with parts. Don't want to be a downer about it, but it's a great program, but not cheap. The nice part about it is that everything you're doing has already been done, so you really don't have to blaze a trail into unknown territory.

I can wire meself, and I do have HP Tuners.
I just figured for a daily car, an ls would be a good option for reliability and ease of use.

I'll figure something out soon.

Now you're into the $1k range. You need motor mounts, and engine with a harness ($600 is a sh*t ton for a 4.8/5.3 BTW imo). You're an intank Walbro 450, frame mounted Walbro 255 or AEM 380 with some lines and filters away. If you have the skills, then it can be done on the cheap IF you have HP Tuners and can use it.

Buy a wrecked or blown trans g-series van with a 350 engine. Running should be $500 or less for the entire vehicle.

Pull the engine, scrap the remaining 3500# for $300 and sell the cat converter.

Engine is free, direct swap it into your car in a couple hours labor.

Done.

I putz around with vintage snowmobiles. Many of them sit for a long time, melt a piston, become mouse hotels with the most corrosive p$ss known to man. Acetone and ATF is the bomb for a stuck motor.
