Anyone in NJ have a 350/290 or 350/265?

Ok but neither of those cams are aggressive.

Compared to stock, they both are. It won't have a glass smooth idle and pull 20+ inches of vacuum. It is aggresive enough that I would worry about zinc levels. Curious how much vacuum at idle that cam puts out? It also doesn't say LSA, that makes a difference in how it idles and behaves. Yeah, I am not a big cam person and probably will never be. With the new Edelbrock heads, my 358 should tickle 400 hp with the 218/218 roller cam, good enough for me.

No offense intended, but I think you'll have a hard time. Might be easier to find a car for sale saying it has the motor and check that out.

It's a how many NJ guys, times how many with the motor, times how many loan their cars to someone, times how many let a stranger drive em. Probabilities approach zero, not accounting for how many have the motor in the crate form.

I know I don't loan my cars out, heck, I don't even let the wife drive most of them. But she knew I was like that for 9 years before we married so she knew what she was getting lol.

Understood, but I'm not looking to take the car for a joy ride for a few hours. But I wouldn't mind if the the owner took me for a ride around the block and stepped on it once.
Lots of friendly people on this board, I took a shot.
If I do wind up with this motor, I'll video what its like a post it on line.

That's how I read your initial request & would have accommodated it had I lived in that area.

I have run the 260hp gm crate motor before. I used it daily to drive 50 miles round trip and it never let me down. Will this motor win you races, not a chance lol. I ran mine in the 1/4 with 2.41 gears and a th350 trans. I left the light at 2500rpm and ran a brisk 16.5 @ 82mph. An overdrive trans and a better rear gear will help. Not sure what the smog laws are in your area, but if you no longer need to get your tailpipe sniffed I would look into the L31 crate motor. Roller cam and vortec heads.

No smog issue in NJ. Cars before 1995 (OBD2) are no longer inspected. I'm not looking for anything more that 300HP and 250-275 hp would fit the bill nicely for me. I'm also trying to simplify the swap and maintenance. I can swap over my current parts to this new motor ( but I'll get a new water pump and distributor) and that's that. No customization.
I already installed an 200 4R trans and I'll work on the rear gears after the motor swap. Still running factory wheels, brakes, suspension. Maybe upgrade as the years go on.

Right now from a stand still my Elco takes 16 + seconds to get to 60 MPH. This car has no power, the motor is old and tired. Thanks again for the feedback.

I will follow-up on what bruisedbanana79 said.....

You're asking about the 2 most out-dated crate engines GM offers. Yes, they still get the job done so that's why they are still available (well, I think the 290 version is not being built anymore).
Any reason you're not interested in the Vortec version motors? Better compression. Better cam. Better heads. I'm curious why you might not be interested in the Vortec options? Other than a different intake required & possibly the distributor (not sure on compatibility).

For a mild app, bumping the compression to @ least 9:1 should be a priority. The Vortec based engines do that & use a milder cam profile for better torque.

I'm near the delaware memorial bridge... I've got a 4-speed auto and 3.55 gears, but my motor is not SBC (5.3L).
