Im "relearning" the electronic Rochester Carbs that I learned in Voc school 25 years ago. My 1987 442s carb was swapped out prior to my purchasing it and was running very rich as you describe. Along with idle mixture screws, there is the Throttle Position Sensor, and Metering Control Soleniod that needs to be adjusted on the car running.
