BUILD THREAD 86 GP 2+2~Blown 6.0

Head gasket looks good. No signs of lifting, it was still stuck down nice.

LSA MLS with chyna studs from 2014.
Chyna bad. Just trying to add some levity. Bummer that it's so bad but I guess that's part of racing.

Pulled the passenger head, pan, and pistons out last night

Autopsy says
-expensive holley pan-needs welding, pickup tube is bent, dented and scrap
-windage tray is scrap
-my BTR blower cam is scrap, thats a tough pill to swallow
-4 of the 7 remaining Pistons have really bad skirt damage
-block has a really deep gouge in the cylinder wall and probably caused some risk of cracking, I don't see a sleeve being worth it
-#3 and #5 rods are bent
-2 cups of piston kibble scraped out of the bottom of the pan

#5 piston was .040 in the hole but all the others besides 3 I guess were fine

Good news
The crank is salvageable
The top rings were loose, 2nd compression ring was sticky but loosened up easily
No crushed ring lands
Bearings looked good especially considering it pumped a ton of crap in the pan

So my tune was likely ok, I just over powered and fatigued the gen 3 rods.

I killed it good

Keeping the thread alive.

I'm used to skimming the dirtiest grimiest bottom of marketplace and paying under fair market value for stuff, but this is one I had to pay till retail on.

I've been looking for a lq9 since I blew up the lq4 last September and not much luck for anything priced reasonably. All the marketplace stuff is $1200+ and your SOL when they are rusty in the cylinders. I paid $200 for my lq4 off CL in 2015 which I was ok with as it was so cheap if I had to fix stuff Id still be money ahead, but paying at or above salvage yard prices for private party sales is dumb.

I wanted the higher compression and this salvage yard warrantied lq9 was the same price as a lq4 from any other yard so I admitted I should buy it before someone else does. 17 miles away, had the day off. $900 with tax and a $300 core but I'm ok sending my v7 lq4 back with 2 bent rods, a scratched bore that needs a sleeve and a shotgunned head.

I've never been fortunate enough to buy a $200 Vortec or $300 4L80E. You did just fine.

900 bucks is a steal in my area!

$600 (with core credit) is reasonable. It’s amazing what an LS core goes for in different areas. I guess it describes the area, or amount of salt put in the roads.
