What did you do to your g-body today 2025 Edition!

I took the winter tires off for good. They are looking a bit....overused. They are on some nice Pontiac snowflake rims I saved from our 1979 Formula. I like the Rally II rims better and they have some Tiger Paws for Summer use. I will probably strip the bad tires off and save the snowflake rims for later.

Uniroyal Tiger Paws are my favorite of all the tires I've ran, other winner being Chaparrals with 9 ply sidewalls for truck use. I blew the tread completely off of those and still drove like a madman without incident. For an afternoon, before replacement.

Fixed (more like finished because I forgot to weld it fully) the passenger side muffler, dusted it off and took it out of its tarp prison

Supposed to be really nice tomorrow, so I figured I’d drive it once or twice before I ripped it apart again. Made some changes to the carb over the winter that fixed a stumble at low speeds, but can’t check how rich or lean it is at cruise since the wideband sensor croaked.

Also got my spindles back from Mr. Degeer, put an order for a hub bearing to test fit the C7 brakes to tomorrow. Hopefully they fit, I want this thing done for G-Body Classic.
Would be cool if you met up with us, a local guy tries to get a bunch of us to caravan out to the Classic together

The car ran fantastic! In the morning at least. Ended up needing to stop a few places after work, and en route to the second stop, the car just died. Wouldn’t restart, starter was obviously getting hot from the headers. Thought it was the fuel pump but I found it to still be running while I was stuck in the turning lane next to the shop, so I gave it a pump or 2 and managed to get it to start and stay running long enough to pull it into the parking lot to cool off thanks to a good samaritan stopping traffic for me.

Pulled #1 plug after the headers cooled off enough to mildly scald and it didn’t look too bad to my untrained eyes:

Still changed all 8 out with a slightly hotter set, and the car started like nothing happened. Possibly a fuel boiling issue, I can tell it’s bogging at stop lights more than it usually does, dropping about a hundred extra RPM, so it might need scoch more on the idle screws.

Going to relocate the MSD box to the factory battery location and build it its own box with a fan or 2 with a fresh air feed just to be safe though. If it’s only fuel issues, I’m 100% going overboard on the header wrap, and the timeline for a fiberglass hood I can add vents to just got punched up too.

Now that sounds like a fun idea! I’ll shoot you a DM about it in the future, still undecided if I’m going to go up on Friday and stay overnight somewhere along the way yet. Plus, I can only do 65ish before this old truck motor starts screaming at me 😂

No worries at all, Bobby actually goes pretty slow which aggravates some of the faster cars but does make it so some of the stock cars have no trouble keeping up. Actually last year we even had a truck and trailer in the caravan which kept up better than some of the slower drivers haha

Made a bit of progress

  • Installed Wolfbox dash cam (front and rear). Need to install the license plate bracket for completion.
  • Installed floating screen head unit, then uninstalled it because I forgot to connect everything, then installed it again lol.
  • Finally installed trunk button that I had hanging on the side for 4 months.
Things to do....
  • Waiting for new Forever Sharp steering wheel to install that
  • Still looking for some Procar Scat seats on FB marketplace.
  • Need to install new headliner then try to cutout the aftermarket sunroof hole. Wish me luck on that.
  • Need to mock up a rear deck
  • Install new kickpanels and speakers
  • Control arms, get an alignment, etc... (going to do this at the shop)
  • install BMR rear sway bar
  • install new crossmember
  • blah, blah, blah...it never stops lol
