I went and picked mine up today. I finally gave up and was walking out of the yard. Then I saw them on an 88 Z-28. I'm not sure if they came on there from the factory or not, but I got em. One side was hard as hell to get off. I gotta go back and get the drums sunday. Do I need to take out the axles to get the drums off? Somebody gimme some info here.
are you talking about the drums on your gbody, or the rotors on the camaro? the stock drums should slide off... on the camaro, the rotors should slide right off once you pulled the calipers off...

That's what i was wondering to? Didn't quite understand the" taking off. Drums" part of this cats post n :wtf: eitheri wanted to ask you if the 2000+ line of impalas could be a possible candidate for this conversion? My boneyard. Is full of these, but no 2000ish camaros?

Ok I was half asleep when I posted that. I had a little trouble getting the disk/drum off the Z-28. But the question I'm really trying to ask is do I have to take the axles out of the rear end on the Z to get the backing plates and mounting brackets off. Sorry about the confusion. I need to stop sleep posting. But thanks for all the input. Now I need more.

Yes you need to take the axles off to remove the calliper brackets. If the callipers are in poor shape see if you can get them for free or a few $$$. The cores for those callipers are pricey. I also used 1980 Seville rear callipers with the parking brake. They don't have the counter weights like the F body has so they look cleaner. Another thing I did was to weld up the holes in the calliper bracket on the right side so I could open new holes and have both brackets facing the same way.

I would have to look at them, I like the 2002 camaro brakes because the have 12" rotors... and can be easily upgraded to 13 or 14"...

yes... this thread is more specific to the conversion to 2002ish camaro rear brakes, but im sure the others are very similar... as far as picking stuff up in a junk yard, your value is in finding parts that are still in good to great condition, be patient... no sense in buying parts you have to re purchase again... in that case you might as well just go to autozone or ebay and buy the parts new, or buy a kit...

there were other sets in the junk yard that day, i didnt take them cause I wasnt sure i was getting the right brakes, and my phone didnt work, i took them off, found another g body in the yard and fitted them on there, looked like it would be an easy swap, so i grabbed them, now that i know for sure they will work, ill prob be taking trips to the yard and grabbing good brakes when i see them...

what makes this thread a good one is that I am trying to get the entire rear set up done for around $200 (mounted on the ca), so far I am there... technically I think I can do that now at only $132 total... but the brackets by flynbye are only $85 more and make this a very painless install...

I was saying I got these same brakes off that Z-28. I dont know if they were factory or not.

yes you need the stock backing plate/ebrake and the short brake line off of it... ill take a picture of those parts when i get off work and post them, i still gotta clean em up and paint the back of em...

Yea exactly. Ok I have to go back and get them sunday. Thanks.

FedEx delivered a small package... so another $85 (flynbye brackets) brings my grand total to $217... so lets see if I can get this done, without anything else, even though the pads are looking good, I may go ahead and buy some new ones after i clean it up... but minus that $217 for rear 12" disc brakes isn't bad at all...
