FedEx delivered a small package... so another $85 (flynbye brackets) brings my grand total to $217... so lets see if I can get this done, without anything else, even though the pads are looking good, I may go ahead and buy some new ones after i clean it up... but minus that $217 for rear 12" disc brakes isn't bad at all...

I think I am missing something.... but what are the brackets for ( front or rear ? ) I see you already have the backing plates for the rear so why not just use those and drill out the holes to match the backing plate ?
my total budget for this setup was $250, I beat that having all that was required to do the swap at $132... i ordered the brackets to make it a complete bolt on style kit, for under the $250... yes i could drill the emergency brake backing plate and fab a mount for the shock etc... and still can... It was suggested to me to by several people to try out flynbye (which I am glad i did)... if I dont use them, i will have the brackets and either sell them separate, keep them for another car, or sell them as a kit, after mocking them up on my car, to show in the thread how they work... i thought i posted that in the thread somewhere as far as not needing the brackets, but making this bolt on

8) there is no thumbs up smiley

10-4. I have only seen/installed this setup where the axle flange is cut and drilled to match the f-body backing plate ( as done on my car ), I would like to see how or if these brackets can incorporate the parking brake. I would suggest to replace the axle bearing seals while you have it all apart ( they are only a couple bux each ). Can't figure how or if the bracket from flynebye will incorporate that.
However if you are going to use the orig backing plate and want the parking brake operational I was talking a freind and he suggested the parking brake cables from a 2000-2005 Impala ( they use near the same rear disk brakes and they have the parking brake lever in the same position as a gbody vs the centre pull in a fbody ) and with some minor tweaking he said he got them to work for his car. I have pulled a set from the wrecker myself but I have not got around to installing them as my car is auto and I never use the parking brake.

good luck and props for a clean install !

anyhow, last items that I needed to buy...

a total of $38

subtract $20 for the emergency backing plates (which i will use on something else, i am working on)...

so a grand total (out the door, so to speak) of $235, not bad, now lets see how easy or not all this goes together... forgot to buy bearings and seals...

a side note, Ed from flynbye is super cool... he returned all of my calls very fast response and even called me back today (Sunday, Labor Day Weekend) to answer a silly question. The guy is an awesome person and business to deal with...

painted the caliper brackets

took the bottom screws out, loosened the top screws and pried up on the bottom to start the drain of the diff.

took the diff cover off and pull the two pins (smaller and larger one) to pull the axle c-clips, gotta push the tires in on each side to get each clip out one at a time...
