Took some time last night to get a head start on my weekend to do list...

I removed the CCC harness from the car, a few of the emissions items that I had yet to get to, as well as the PCM.

I also wired up and mounted my Mallory HyFire ignition box. I took the factory kick-panel where the oem computer was mount and modified it with an aluminum backing plate to accept my new ignition box (i wanted it somewhere easily accessible for the front mounted led display and controls). It came out really nice, but the only two photos I have right now are from during the install...

I made a seperate harness specifically for the Mallory box. It uses all gm weatherpack connectors, and in the even the box ever fails, I can plug the distributor back in a standard HEI to get home and what-not.

More pics to come.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share some progress. Weather wround here sucked today, so I went out to the garage and started going to town. I started by ripping out the old dash and installing th new crack-free unit I picked up locally. I also took all the wood grain trim on the dash, sanded it down and sprayed it with flat-black. Reinstalled the vents with the chrome trim, and in my opinion, it looks awesome!

I also got my B&M Hamer mounted. I made an aluminum panel that uses the stock mounting holes, and the shifter mounts to the plate. Gives it a nice height too. All thats left with the shifter is to finish the top plate for the console, but heres a few teasers...

Its getting there little by little...

That's a pretty trick mount for the ignition box. Wish my PCM would fit down there. The dash looks good too the flat black really sets the chrome off nicely. Much better than woodgrain on a black car.

Not much in the form of updates. I have been working like crazy.

I did finish the shifter cover and completed about 90% of the odds and ends for the new dash...

Nice job on the shifter install! I like that you fab up your own stuff. And a good call on painting the woodgrain on the dash black, I did the same to my Monte dash and it looks great, now you just have to sand and paint your ashtray lid.

I am hoping to make the ashtray into a cup-holder. Might be a project for this weekend lol

I like the shifter install. It looks great. I was wondering where you get the top plate that sits perfectly in the console like that. I'm gonna put my dads old b&m ratchet shifter in mine cuz the idiot before me replaced the OD transmission w/ a 3 speed and busted the shifter so it doesnt lock into any gear and it starts in any gear. The rest rest of your build is goin along very nicely as well. I also like the blacked out woodgrain and the cupholder idea

Thanks!

The top plate for the shifter actually comes with the B&M hammer. Its designed to work with the little stand-alone console it comes with (ugly as hell). I just cut the four pop tabs off the bottom, and secured it to the stock gear select plate (after opening it up to accommodate the new shifter of course.

B&M is pretty good about selling service parts, so just order the bezel and boot for a hammer shifter and make it work with yours 😉

Wow there is a lot of good info going through this post I'm watching this one for sure
