Since the ARP chromoly head bolts are $86 and the Stainless set is $156, I used header paint on the external bolt heads to simulate the stainless look of the other engine bolts.

I moved on to checking for proper rocker arm geometry. I'm armed with a Morel Roller Lifter pair, a Harland Sharp Rocker, and a Comp Cams push rod length checker.

I heard people complain about the two nuts that come with the checker are too big to fit past the guide plate. I just took them off. The threads for the checker are a little tight, so as long as I'm careful, I should be able to keep my measurement length intact.

With the rocker arm trunnion and front roller bisected by a marker line I can set up my base reading (90 degrees to the valve)

With that done I mark the nut to count my turns down to half the cam lift (.280). This will put the rocker center of the valve tip at half lift and have a good sweep front to back during its travel. The rocker stud is 7/16-20 which comes out to .050 for one full turn.

Then adjust the checker to zero lash and measure that length. Mine came out to 9.157, which is good since most pushrods are made on every .050 lengths.

You had to do math and lose me. I hate math. 🙂

Looking good though!

I didn't mention I had my shoes and socks off to do the hard counting 🤔

With the pushrods in hand, I install the home made valley oil baffle and Morel Roller Lifters. Then I adjust the valves.

Test fitting the headers to get the best placement for the dipstick. It looks mean with the Kooks bolted on.

I also bolted the filter housing on and spun on a WIX XP.

I've been trying to find someone who has a set of the new chamber heads that reportedly came out last year but to no avail.
