Re: 1987 Olds Pro-touring project build *LONG*

So is the car going to be painted black or other color? A car this bad would almost have to be Black. Bernhard

It's going to be a dark blue. Indigo Ink Pearl.

Black is just too common. 😉

Snapped a couple of pictures from the videos that show the spoiler a bit better. Still kind of grainy.

I have the tape on the taillights because right now the spoiler is hitting them. I need to shave a bit off the ends of the spoiler to clear.

Good point. But will the dark blue due your car justice. Have you made up some color test panels. Is it a pearl color that changes in different light and when you change the angle that you look at it. I am not a big fan of custom tri colors or the pearls. I do have a great respect for those that can lay them down right. The house of colors was big when I was in the trade. I always liked the colors just not on the cars, except on retro hot rods and retro muscle cars. Good luck with the rest of your build you have done a great job on it, nothing common about it. I hope to borrow a few of your ideas.

It's actually a stock Lexus/Toyota/Scion color. I liked the way it looked on this Cobra:

It does have pearl in it but not enough to really make the color flop like you say. We are going to do a test panel to see how it looks. I'm not sure what color primer the OEM's use so since I'll be using a black 2k primer, I want to spray the paint over top of it to see if it changes the color any. If I'm thinking right, it should make the color darker, which would be fine.

Re: 1987 Olds Pro-touring project build *LONG*

fe3x...if you go to a paint supply store they should have a paint chart that they can slide over different tints of primer so you can use the primer tinted so that the color of the top coat neutralizes the primer

Re: 1987 Olds Pro-touring project build *LONG*

just wanted to say... love that colour! good choice.

And I'm not just saying that because I like blue... I'm more of a black paint kinda guy. But black is so overdone and WAY too common. And it's just a nightmare to take care of!

Have you also considered white? I'm thinking since there won't be any chrome on the car, white would look pretty cool with black trim. Kinda like mkiiisupra's GN

Re: 1987 Olds Pro-touring project build *LONG*

Thats a cool looking blue. We always went with dark primer with dark colors and light color primer for the light colors. I do not know with the new base clear paints if this rule still holds true. What brand of paint are you using.I used to be big on the US brands Dupont, PPG, RM. But I have to say that the euro paints are in there own class.

Re: 1987 Olds Pro-touring project build *LONG*

That IS a sweet looking blue. Kinda reminds me of a modern version of Chevy's older "Midnight Blue".
