Who here has swapped out a transmission by themselves? I realize some of you don't have welding machines of their own to tinker with, so... if you have an atv winch with the remote wand, and an old line doubler... bolting up an adapter usin' scrap metal can be done. This one was welded. Operating an engine hoist from under th car is worrysome, since one can't reach the crank handle if you just so happen to get pinched while under your own car, then waiting for someone to walk by to give you hand. This suckah slips over the , and engine hoist and let's you work magic all by yourself. This build is the third time i've transplanted an engine into this thing, and have not lifted the hood off of it yet...

Dry fitting and building takes some time for that "right" look when you first take 'er out for a trip. Exhaust was in and out several times before final welding.

Driveshaft went in twice... once for the fitter trans, and exhaust mockup(s),then back out for a detailing and paint. Just in case on of my geezer friends can bend down that far to peek. Lol.

I see that car has hydroboost. Is it a former diesel car? Mine was a diesel when new.

Now about the "extra" ground clearance I talked about earlier on... there's a good pick of that seat brace I conjured up, and still needed a few tweeks to it just to be sure. The last build with this mill, same springs in the other car I gave my brother, the (now i'm not out to bash the crush bent exhaust guys by any means here just so ya(s) know!!!) crush bent pipes weren't of high enough workmanship worthy of bragging rights. I won't post the pics of them, because, well, they weren't that great... It's all i'll say! And I cut them up real good, then mixed them up so I wouldn't be lazy enuf to re-use 'em...

Nope! She's a (was) a turbo car originally. 4bbl feedback Rochester. A/c, pillow top 60/40 frt, t-roof and column shift girl. besides! if i had access to a diesel version? i'd shop for a duramax to put into one. lots of folks in these parts run around with cummins 6's in their square bodies... and i did see a few in car magazine features here and there. i like the grand prix styling a lot.

That seat brace is just thick enough to re-use the original bolting hardware. It came out twice for tweeks, then a nice shove with a floorjack. About 5/8" clearance to u-joint, and about th same for the crossover piping.

Then it was time time quit procrastinatin the new trans install. No pics o that part. But it did require some specialized slings made from cargo straps. I'v yet to take the hood off 'er btw.
