I would look for a 1996 - 2002 5.7L Small block as a complete engine all accessories, brackets and everything on the front of the engine, They are in trucks, big SUVs including the escalade and even school busses. Second choice would be a first generation small block (1955-1986) I would not use one of those 87 to 95 engines, that's just my preference.

When you all say "look for"; you literally mean use a national junk yard search don't you? Because it sounds like you guys prefer not to buy from a big name like Jegs.

Is this the one you were saying you preferred?

Jegs wants $460 for a core and you will have no flexplate, harmonic balancer. alternator, PS pump. A/C compressor, brackets, pulleys, bolts or wiring.
If you can find a core for say $600 you are way ahead of trying to buy all this stuff one piece at a time.

Yes i would much rather have that engine than the earlier one.

Unless you are trying to build a factory appearance SBC car that utilizes factory wiring and ECM, please forget about TBI stuff. Do you have to pass any emissions testing where you live?

Wound up buying a 350 TBI out of a Chevy P/U and got a new 700r4 with it for $1,500 bucks. I'm going to have to shorten the trans a bit for it to fit. Guy sent me a video of it running.

I'll add shocks/springs to the front due to the extra weight if needed.

3 hour drive to pick it up; guess I have to buy a motor stand?

Let's all pray I don't screw this up.

Holy bejesus, how much you want for the truck without the motor and transmission.

I have trailer and will travel.

I'll ask him :) it's in TN.
I didn't get the truck, just the transmission and engine. He needed money, but you could tell this guy knew what he was doing. He had a lot of finished and unfinished projects.

If I can get the rest for $1000 or less when I roll up there tomorrow I'll let you know.
