Wound up buying a 350 TBI out of a Chevy P/U and got a new 700r4 with it for $1,500 bucks. I'm going to have to shorten the trans a bit for it to fit. Guy sent me a video of it running.

I'll add shocks/springs to the front due to the extra weight if needed.

3 hour drive to pick it up; guess I have to buy a motor stand?

Let's all pray I don't screw this up.
It should work out well for you....just go into it with realistic expectations.

TBI heads aren't going to make big power.....and your 2.xx factory rear gears won't help matters. But TBI is simple, parts are cheap and readily available....should be a good cold weather starter.

I would expect that a stock tbi 350 and factory 2.xx gears would run pretty even with a factory l69 305 in a monte SS with 3.73 gears. Headers, a free flowing exhaust and swapping to 3.42 - 3.73 gears would be worthwhile.
