May someone give me their input please. I have a 5.7 vortec out of a 99 Chevy suburban. I have the wire harness, computer, transmission and I believe everything off the suburban to do a motor swap in an 81 Monte Carlo. Has anyone done this before? What problems will I run into? Thanks for the help.

If you have everything you need to run it in a sub. they the only thing needed is a fuel pump to meet the fuel needs and the exhaust or headers for the exhaust readers.

Will the pully clear the steering box? Also the hood should close right?

my 87 Grand Prix has a vortec 5.7 in it, but has been setup to run a carb and a 700r4 instead of a 4l60. I got the car this way and I think it has the original 305 pulley system on it, so I can't tell you if it clears the gearbox or not. The hood does close on mine, but not sure on your application. experimenting , I installed my old 327 in it and seems to sit farther forward than the vortec motor, not sure why... look to see what some of the LS swap guys are doing about the fuel tank/pump situation, as that will be along the same line what you'll need for the vortec swap.

I've thought along the similar lines, and am thinking about the feasability of installing the vortec FI intake and computer onto the old 327, (I already have vortec 062 heads on it) and possibly a 4l60 to add to the reliability...

HTH,
Darin

Cool thanks. A buddy said he's going to help me and said we shouldn't run into a whole lot of problems but I'm not sure. I had never seen it done. I plan on putting the 4l60e behind it that is with the vortec. Guess we shall see. Thanks for the input. Always appreciated.

be sure to take pics along the way and get a thread on your build started, even if it's for your own benefit.... I started my own, just so I could remember what I've done, so I could fix it right later on! 😀

The old 327 and the new 880 vortec block use the same motor mounts so the motor is still mounted in the same place. As for you other answer the 700r4 and the 4L60E are the same. Except the 4L60E will need a stand lone controller to run the shifting of he trans. The 700 does not need the controller so you will not gain anything just spen
