Just working with what I got. It came with this mid 70's 350 SBC, Edelbrock 600, 200 4r, headers and true dual exhaust. It runs 3.73's and 28 x 10.50 drag radials. The Car was $300 and needed a LF Window and a battery. That must be a weak sbc 350, probably 8 to 1 with a stock peanut cam. Dump the Edelbrock carb, many of us consider them junk. I ran equal mid 15's from a stock 8 to 1 76 Olds 350, lean reman Qjet, Performer intake with a 204/214 cam, shorty headers and 2.5" exhaust, stock 1900 stall 2004R, 3.42 gears and 26" tall bias ply ET Street slick. My 88 weighs almost 3700 pounds and should have ran quicker. My current stock inside 73 Olds 350 with a custom tuned Qjet and stock peanut cam feels just as strong.
Just out of curiosity did you check the kick down cable make sure it's tight at full throttle that can cause some issues, if your are considering buying new heads, brodix IK 180s and 200s are a damm good head for only 1000 assembled I got 200s on my 406 my buddy got the 180s on his stock bottom end 350 his runs good ,lots of great heads out there for great priceOK,
So, I ran it at the 1/4 mile. 16.00 at 84 mph. Engine is running great, I think I need to focus on the transmission.
the trans shifts way to early and it drops out of the power band. I normally run 1/8 mile and I have notched to shifter to set it in drive and keep it out of OD.
I could feel it shifting early and when it hit Drive and was held there , the engine just kept building power and accelerating.
I tried manually shifting it and it really improved my 1/8 mile, but I missed D and went to OD and it layed down ( 9.69 at 1/8, 15.79 at 78mph.)
I want to pull the 200 4r and put it in my street Camino, and put the 350 in the Olds.
Great tip about the Engine Quest Heads! I will look into them and see where I can come up with the Money.
