Well, I did it. I put together the 7.5 with the 3.73 gearset ( pinion, carrier et al) from the S10 and the Mini Spool. I ran a quick test hit or two on street tires, and took it to the track Sunday.
put the Drag radials on and let her rip. ( this year, the Edelbrock 600/ 1406 has been rebuilt and now we are tuning it ) Added a Davis Street Fire Ignition and bested a 9.79 @ 68+ mph. to date)
Best 60' is about 2.02 Even with the Spool. I did not break anything yet, but I did go three rounds which is a personal best. ( I Lifted in the Semis against a G35 because he was nowhere in sight, and I had been breaking out and lost by.02)

Anyway, the 7.5 is holding up and I have $200 in it? I think I will build another one in reserve!

I have seen the mini spool crack but not fail. I blew up spider gears on the street, probably the slicks help finish them off, very soft. I also broke a no slip with slicks at the track. It no longer unlocked on turns, thought I noticed the tire skidding around corners. Parrell parking was a rush and definitely confirmed my suspicions, very violent.

Taking it out to Beaver Springs Dragway to run the 1/4 tonight!
Last year I managed about a 16.3. But , Since I have performed the aforementioned upgrades, A metering rod change and fresh NGK's and I will keep it in drive this time. ( Last year I had the wrong three speed shifter in and the 200 4r would shift to OD, and laydown)
I am thinking that it should run 15.5 / 15.6 at 80+

That must be a weak sbc 350, probably 8 to 1 with a stock peanut cam. Dump the Edelbrock carb, many of us consider them junk. I ran equal mid 15's from a stock 8 to 1 76 Olds 350, lean reman Qjet, Performer intake with a 204/214 cam, shorty headers and 2.5" exhaust, stock 1900 stall 2004R, 3.42 gears and 26" tall bias ply ET Street slick. My 88 weighs almost 3700 pounds and should have ran quicker. My current stock inside 73 Olds 350 with a custom tuned Qjet and stock peanut cam feels just as strong.

Just working with what I got. It came with this mid 70's 350 SBC, Edelbrock 600, 200 4r, headers and true dual exhaust. It runs 3.73's and 28 x 10.50 drag radials. The Car was $300 and needed a LF Window and a battery.
I understand that the engine is not very hi performance for now. The Edelbrock carb was just rebuilt last month by one of the most highly regarded tuners at the track, so I am not in a big hurry to change it.
I have a similar size cam (NIB) and just picked up an Edlebrock Vortech intake for it. and I will be looking for a decent set of Vortec heads to run on it.

I hope to post up some better times as the car evolves.

Don't mess around with junkyard Vortec heads. GM has new replacements and Engine Quest as well. Engine Quest did similar strength improvements as the Dodge Magnum heads to prevent cracks. Great deal on a 442 in that shape. Hopefully the Edelbrock carb doesn't have unfixable issues. A wideband tuner could make a huge difference. Too bad someone bastardized your 442. I can see if they put in a hot sbc 350 putting out 300+hp, that sounds more like 200 hp. I get that the Olds 307 is not a performance motor They could have grabbed any mid 70's Olds 350, got the same performance or better and been a direct swap.

OK,
So, I ran it at the 1/4 mile. 16.00 at 84 mph. Engine is running great, I think I need to focus on the transmission.
the trans shifts way to early and it drops out of the power band. I normally run 1/8 mile and I have notched to shifter to set it in drive and keep it out of OD.
I could feel it shifting early and when it hit Drive and was held there , the engine just kept building power and accelerating.
I tried manually shifting it and it really improved my 1/8 mile, but I missed D and went to OD and it layed down ( 9.69 at 1/8, 15.79 at 78mph.)
I want to pull the 200 4r and put it in my street Camino, and put the 350 in the Olds.
Great tip about the Engine Quest Heads! I will look into them and see where I can come up with the Money.
