Realistically, you'd end up spending the same amount of money on either engine, but you'd come out with less power and less potential for making more power. I mean, for 5 grand you can have a 450+hp 383 stroker out of a 350. Can't do that with a 305. And a 700r4 wouldn't be my first choice for a transmission either. Monte SS g bodies came with one of the desirable models of the 200r4, along with the GN, and 442. It's really the valve body and some internal components that make them better out of the box than say one from a caprice or delta 88. the GN has a higher stall converter (something like 22-2600 if I remember right) because it was behind a turbo v6. With the 700r4, you'd need a new cross member, as I'm sure has been mentioned in here quite a few messages ago. A 200r4 would drop right in, and have better gear ratios for a car. Still a 4 speed auto with overdrive (4th). but weighs a bit less and saps a bit less power.
Hm, Idk what to do. I'm mainly worried that the piston rings will be rotted, and will need new ones, along with every other gasket. If you were in my shoes which would you go with?

With the 350, it'd need a 100% rebuild no doubt about it. If the 350 is from a van like you said, it could be a 4 bolt main engine. Regardless, both should be rebuild, and BOTH should be given new gaskets. It's only 50 bucks for a whole gasket set.

Hm, well, I guess I'll probably still go with the 305. The 305 makes 165 horsepower (at least that's what I just read) in 1985. So that's alright I guess. The 305 is newer, and was just removed from the car in June so it hasn't sat long. Seems like a smarter route.

It would be the least work. Just take the 305 down inspect it, clean it, and reassemble. I'd still install the cam and whatnot you mentioned earlier. Never just slap a motor in. Outer appearances can be deceiving.

Was there corn in your engine?!

Also, if I were to just install the cam and lifters and nothing else, would it run ok until I got the intake for my carb and then headers and other stuff?

Wow, was everything ok tho?
Oh yeah. Insides were squeaky clean. The thing sat with oil in it for 30 years so it has that weird, stanky, sticky film on everything, but it was really nice on the inside. Stock bore. It's a rare GS350 Buick engine, the 315hp 410ftlb motor only used in 1970.

Oh, thats really clean. But disregard what I just asked about the cam and lifter and nothing else right away. I forgot the 305 doesn't have a carb so I would have to get the intake first lol
