Ontario, Canada eh!
Yeah you'lll probably need a rebuild kit. Chances are it will leak. Take it all apart, soak the parts in carb cleaner overnight, clean em and put her back together.

That looks pretty clean (for a quadrajet) already. I would get some carb/throttlebody cleaner and spray it down and make sure all the linkage moves. I had one that was froze up from sitting. Did it work fine before? If its sat for more than a couple months I would definatley rebuild it.

Since that is a Chevy quadrajet, it is not going to run great on an SBO. Quadrajets were built and matched to engines. They are not a universal jack of all trades deal like aftermarket carburetors.

There's nothing special about this Chevy carb that wouldn't allow it to run perfectly fine fine on a similar non Chevy engine. It's really not a question on what engine make a carb was calibrated for, but more of what 'type' of an engine ( high performance big block, smogger 350, high altitude small block truck etc ) it was calibrated for.

Of course almost any Qjet could be modded to work on almost any type of engine. You can swap jets and rods, install different piston springs, open up air bleeds etc. So you can start with a smogger Chevy Qjet from say a 78 Blazer and mod it to work perfectly on a high performance 455 Olds. In some cases, it may not even require as much work as one might expect!

Agree, I would hose it off with carb cleaner and try as is. It may be slightly lean but probably close to what you need. It should have the goofy extra metering rod and jet that all the 75 Qjet's came with. I believe that jet rod adds/removes fuel through out the entire rpm range.

Before you take it apart or soak it down with 100 different sprays why not see if it works first.

Q-jets are not like Holleys that need to be rebuilt after sitting on a shelf for 2 months.

Put it on see if it works and gently tighten any screws, after it has been running and the gaskets have become wet.

The Q-jet is a great carb and one off a 75 vet should be close to what your Olds will require. Buy 2 can of carb cleaner and spray down the carb. Be sure and soak down the small passages that can be reached. Next use some compressed air and blow out the particles the cleaner may have loosened up. New carb to manifold gasket and drop it on.

50/50 shot it may run great. If not, buy a 25 dollar carb kit and rebuild it. Not terribly difficult.

I say put it on and see. i have replaced quad's that have sat for many years and all have worked for me. I have also rebuilt one before and I use carb cleaner to clean the thing to start with but if you are going to rebuild it take it apart and soak all the parts in seafoam for a couple days followed by compressed air.. clean clean clean

best of luck to you, no matter what route you choose
