GRAND PRIX 79 Grand Prix Resurrection

While you're at this stage of your project, I would strongly recommend fixing the firewall. Ask me how I know... 😉 This is something that can be done with not much experience since most of the firewall won't be seen after you re-assemlbe your vehicle (unlike doing body work). However small your effort, it'll look much better than original. If down the road your project direction changes for the better, you won't regret having a nice firewall.

Here are some pics of mine -- nothing fancy, just wire wheel, sandpaper, some bondo, primer and paint. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Kiko-
When I said stop at the firewall, I was talking about the other side of it!

Having said that, I would like to know the product you used on your firewall.
My plan has been to redo it but I haven't thought about my methods yet.

Corey D

No problem -- always glad to help! Products used: any good quality bondo (3M or Evercoat), etching primer and PPG spray gun paint (purchased at CMAX).

A couple of updates.

1. I have been grinding and sanded for days trying to prep firewall and front frame. Tried my hand at body filler where the wiper patio(?) is.

2. SSM adjustable upper arms with tall ball joints are being strongly considered.

3. Got a set of ZQ8 spindles and C5 calipers on the way Have a plan for front brakes from kore3. Still trying to figure out if machineing axles on rear is required.

4. Need sheilding gas so I can practice welding. After, I'm going to tackle floorboards and consider body mount replacement.

Circling back around to shifter detent issue, I see that i screwed up my previous response. I will attempt again. https://shiftworks.com/collections/conversion-kits

I was think Quicksilver bc it looks semi stock but calling these guys is def going to happen. They don't advertise anything for a 79 GP but I wonder....

I would be over the moon of they had some brilliant way to convert my factory slap into a 4 speed OD

Eastwood encapsulator applied.
Tomorrow Spray max epoxy primer and Eastwood Ceramic Underhood on firewall. Then Eastwood Extreme Chassis on wait for it...the Chassis

Doing firewall first bc that stuff cures so fast.

Waiting on information about Kore3 rear C5 and 8.5" need to machine...

Moving right along.
Praying Tobin at Kore3 is going to tell me machine work to 8.5" is not needed.

Today is my birthday.
Not a single dirty diaper changed.
Just me, the garage fridge and aersol cans as I stalked delivery drivers all afternoon. Glorious!

With that, after 9 months of turning wrenches left. In ready to turn a few right!!

Aug 2019...wrenches started turning, to the left. Today, I ran the bolts through the control arms. Big day if you feel me.

Once I started taking things apart, I began to wonder when I would start putting stuff back on. 9 months went by. I thought it would be back on the road last fall but one thing leads to another as the say but its been fun.

Excited to get this front suspension back on. Brakes get here in about a week. Hopefully, I'll be able to find the time to clean up my springs and put them back in the next few days.

Shout out to SouthSide Machine in Indianapolis for the arms. Great support.
