Looking to put a posi in my 81 Malibu what do you all suggest? Would like to swap rear end but have no clue what is compatible. Any help would be greatly welcomed.. Viturally indestructable at sub 350 hp level. Over 350 HP you'll need to do some upgrading. ^^This is a 3 series implying you need a 3.23 ratio or higher gear set.
For a complete rearend swap, the only bolt in is either aftermarket or from another G-body. What's your budget, HP and skill level?

For 600HP you should go with a bolt in 9-inch.......

sorry but you wont get anything "bolt in" capable of 600hp on your budget.
You could do a JY 8.8 from a fox body and run the Ford wheels out back for around $1k allowing some $$ to get it squared up by a competent shop.

you can get the B body front spindles that have the 5x5 bolt pattern to match the 5x5 ford bolt pattern in the rear end
A lot depends on what your doing with the car but if your thinking about racing anything you do to the 7.5 is like throwing money out your window. Do it once - do it right, I would suggest a 12 bolt, ford 9in, or a dana 60
A built 454 will shred a 7.5 if you ever hook. Unless you get lucky and find that 1 in a million deal, you will be spending over $1000 for a rear that can reliably take that abuse. The factory G body 8.5 rear would likely be the most economical if you can find one ready to bolt in. The 9 inch package looks really nice to me....In the end, it will be more money but its new and has huge aftermarket support. Don't forget to upgrade your driveshaft with 1350 u joints and slip yoke. The stock 3R parts are the weak point.
